Because India & Pak started their independent journeys at same time, from same subcontinent & with similar colonial legacies. Comparing their trajectories is therefore entirely relevant. You can disagree with my explanation for divergence,but not with the relevance of comparison.

Don't you think? There’s a fine line between healthy competition and toxic comparison. Constantly benchmarking two countries against each other doesn’t inspire growth, it just keeps people stuck in an us vs them loop that fuels hatred instead of constructive progress.

Comparison isn’t inherently toxic. Countries routinely benchmark themselves against peers to understand what worked and what didn’t. Hatred comes from dehumanising people—not from examining why outcomes diverged.

Karachi, Peshawar, Lahore, and Kabul were once favorite destinations for European and American hippies. Back then, alcohol was legal, and clubs and bars were very much part of the urban culture. In 1977, Bhutto banned both alcohol and bars, and the rest is history.

Alhamdulillah it's not like this anymore then.

Pakistan could’ve been Dubai,Morocco,Turkey, with tourists flocking to our beaches, instead we got Zia. He weaponised religion,promoted hate,division & extremism, now here we are. Sadly we have had no brave Ataturk leader who could separate religion from State & save the country.

The societies keep moving forward but Pakistan, India and Afghanistan keep going back. The video is authentic footage of Karachi from the early 1960s reflect the cultural behaviours of the local people. It comes from the 1960 Pan Am promotional travelogue New Horizons: Pakistan. The beach, camel-riding, and sailing scenes match that film exactly, including the narration lines that appear as on-screen text in the clip (“Most visitors of the fragile sex…”, “try everything once”, “It’ll be a sore subject”). The year given in the post (1963) is slightly off—the film itself is dated 1960—but the location and era are correct. The final dam shot is from elsewhere in Pakistan (likely Warsak Dam, completed around the same time) and was simply appended to the beach footage.
