I am concerned that this party is not fulfilling its obligations under its own constitution. The party has announced a new leader, Anthony Casey, following the resignation of the former leader Derek Blighe. I am concerned that this change occurred without the requirement of an election among the party membership, which is required under Article 5 of the party constitution. The party requires that new members are on a probationary period for 12 months before they can vote on any committees or bodies within the party. Clearly several of the new leadership of the Ireland First party have not been members of the party for the required 12 months – as evidenced by the fact that Anthony Casey contested the November 2024 general election for the Irish Freedom Party, and the new “deputy leader” (or vice president) Frank Conway as an independent in Waterford. It seems absurd to me that members on a probationary basis can hold executive positions like Leader and Deputy Leader. I further note that under article 5, “executive committee composition” , several posts which have allegedly been recently filled – such as deputy leader – were filled without the required election by party members at an annual convention. They appear to have been filled in an ad hoc way by some sort of background negotiations by the new leadership, without recourse to the constitution. I note as well that amendments to the Constitution must be passed by a simple majority of the membership. I have seen no evidence of this. Please could you advise on what steps I, as an individual, could take to ensure that the party is properly fulfilling its own obligations? And furthermore, if you could advise on what steps the Electoral Commission could take to ensure the party is meeting its own obligations to its membership?
