Why are so many square objects thrown into the ring when a wrestler wins? This is an expression of admiration for the match, known as “Zabuton-no-Mai.” In sumo, there is a custom of throwing zabuton (Japanese cushions) into the ring to show appreciation for upsets or memorable matches.
