He used his own money and bought the man an electric scooter, the man took the scooter and just silently walked away, no thank you or anything else at all. He then gave me excuses for why I was being a jerk because I was making him walk in the cold. Working at the pizza place I’ve had some weird requests. Like this man here who didn’t have a stove and took some eggs to McDonald’s and asked them to cook it for him which surprisingly they did. He did pay her very well for the favor. I had a man come in who claimed that his electric was off because of the storm and he was in the middle of cooking a lasagna. He wrapped it up and brought it in and asked if I could cook it for him after he explained the circumstances. At first I was thinking I shouldn’t do it, I remember hearing it was against health code but I was in a good mood and many people did lose power so I decided to do it. I even added a little extra cheese on top and through in some garlic bread for free. The man knows I didn’t have to help him and most places wouldn’t but was gracious I did. I ended up gaining a long time customer with that gesture. I remember he came in one time to pick up a pizza and I ran out of cigarettes. I offered him money to run across the street for me to get some smokes. He said he would but he wouldn’t take my money saying he owed me a favor anyways.

Today, I rescued a young man from the streets of Nairobi along Moi Avenue. He approached me and requested that I take him to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. However, he had no travel documents or even a national identification card. After engaging him in a conversation, I realized that what he truly needed was help and specifically, mental health support. I decided to take him to Mathare Mental Hospital, but since he was fixated on going to the airport, I gently told him that I was taking him to Mathare International Airport. Upon arrival at the hospital and after an initial assessment, he was admitted for treatment. We contacted his mother, who at first didn’t want to be associated with him due to the many difficulties he had caused her. But I took time to speak with her, convincing her that her son needed help not rejection. I reminded her that despite all he had done, she shouldn't abandon him to the world to "teach him a lesson." What he needed most was love, care, and a chance at recovery.
