As it gets closer, you can see moisture forming around the wings, while the wingtip vortices become visible behind the aircraft, creating an incredible sight against the grey, rainy sky. Kenya Airways has brought the 777 back into service on some of its long-haul and high-demand routes. It has been seen on services connecting Nairobi with major destinations including London Heathrow while it has also been used on regional routes such as Johannesburg. The Nairobi–London flight alone takes around 8½ hours nonstop.

After four hours of flight, Chinese air traffic control reminded the pilots that this might not be the right aircraft for the route. Why? Because the agreement with Canadian authorities only authorised the Boeing 777-300ER to operate that service. A quick call back to base in Delhi confirmed that someone had been dozing off a bit more than they should have when the flight was planned. Result: the plane turned around and landed back at the departure point after 7 hours and 54 minutes of flying… to nowhere. Now, knowing that a B777 burns a modest 9 tonnes of fuel per hour… well, just do the maths. Of course, Air India blamed the usual “operational reasons” for the incident—especially at a time when fuel is getting more expensive by the day and starting to run short all over the world. The passengers, it seems, weren’t particularly convinced. I hint that someone will be invited to a "coffeeless meeting" with its boss after this mess up... ℹ️WS. Aviation

He says, "At approximately 9:45 PM, the Air Traffic Control (ATC) unit received a report from the Indian Air Force stating that drones had been spotted across the airfield. By that time, several aircraft scheduled to land in Amritsar were already circling overhead. Following our Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for drone sightings, a Joint Action Committee was activated and assembled in the control tower. They determined that the drone activity could disrupt scheduled landings, so the decision was made to close the airfield for operations. Airport operations were suspended around 9:50 PM. In the meantime, we had to divert aircraft that were holding overhead; there were approximately seven such aircraft. Two flights were diverted to Chandigarh, and five were diverted to Delhi. Around 23:00 hours (11:00 PM), the Joint Action Committee assessed that the situation was under control and—since there was no further drone activity—decided to resume normal operations; we declared operations open starting at 23:15 hours. Subsequently, the flights began returning.
