American entrepreneur Keonne Rodriguez built a successful Bitcoin wallet app called Samourai Wallet. He’s now being sent to prison for it. In a few weeks, Keonne will begin his 5-year sentence behind bars, unless the Bitcoin community can save him by pressuring the US Administration to offer a pardon. When I heard about this story, it sounded like fake news, so I went straight to the source. In this exclusive interview, Keonne Rodriguez is descriptive, logical, and vulnerable. His story is heartbreaking and terrifying. By the end, it's evident he's sitting directly in the crossfire between freedom tech and surveillance states. This is a critical moment in history—a moment for the Bitcoin community to stand up. Just as Ross Ulbricht was pardoned, Keonne Rodriguez must be forgiven, too. We cannot allow one of our own fellow Bitcoiners to spend time in jail for building a legitimate product that protects our Bitcoin and strengthens the network. We must unify to ensure Keonne Rodriguez is freed. Alone, he doesn’t stand a chance. But with support from faithful Bitcoiners, we can bring awareness to his cause. Knowledge is power. WE WON'T BOW Tomorrow, Keonne Rodriguez checks into federal prison. For three years I've warned about the war on crypto. Biden's EO 14067 unleashed a reign of terror on the industry. My wife and I sat in horror during Ian Freeman's sentencing. Ian introduced thousands to Bitcoin starting in 2010. He promoted peace and voluntary exchange. His show Free Talk Live is why I moved to New Hampshire. He got 8 years. He's still in prison. Six months later, Roger Ver was arrested in Spain and thrown into the same prison where John McAfee died under mysterious circumstances. Roger is the reason I got into crypto in 2012. He showed me Bitcoin wasn't just technology but a path to peace and freedom. He faced 109 years for manufactured retroactive tax charges. Now Keonne begins 5 years. William Hill got 4. Roman Storm awaits sentencing. Their crime? Writing code. Building privacy tools. Exercising their First Amendment rights to protect our Fourth Amendment rights. All five men sought legal counsel before doing what they did. They followed the rules. They got destroyed anyway. These men shouldn't be in prison. They should be celebrated. Trump promised us a Golden Age for crypto. Right now it's looking more like a Golden Cage. He has the power to pardon these men and end the war on crypto for good. I'm calling on him to do it. But if he won't, he needs to understand something: We won't bow. I wrote this before I knew the full Samourai story. Hopefully the next song will be celebrating all five pardons. PARDON SAMOURAI (full episode) Keonne Rodriguez w/Walker⚡️ Today I talk with Keonne Rodriguez, co-founder of Samourai Wallet, who is set to report to prison on December 19 unless he and his co-founder Bill get a pardon from President Trump... In April 2024, two Bitcoin software developers, Keonne Rodriguez and William "Bill" Lonergan Hill, were violently arrested in their homes in a pre-dawn militarized raid by the FBI for running Samourai Wallet—a non-custodial Bitcoin wallet—despite no prior warnings and full compliance with the law as they and their advisors understood it. They spent the next year and a half in the crippling uncertainty of home arrest, fighting against an adversary with unlimited resources. Keonne was sentenced on November 6, 2025, to the maximum five years in prison, plus an additional fine of $250,000, plus three years of supervised release. Bill was sentenced to four years in prison on November 19, 2025. He will also be responsible for a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release. Both men are facing serious time in jail for writing code that supported the privacy and security of Bitcoin users. This case exemplifies DOJ overreach through a dangerous legal theory that criminalizes open-source code for legitimate privacy purposes. **Developers should not be held liable for bad actors using their software.** 0:00 INTRO 2:00 Context of the Case 5:12 The Motivation Behind Samurai Wallet 7:54 The Evolution of Bitcoin and Privacy Concerns 10:59 The Raid and Its Implications 13:59 Understanding the Legal Framework 16:47 The Distinction Between Samurai Wallet and Traditional Mixers 20:02 Regulatory Guidance and Miscommunication 22:48 The Role of the Justice System 25:54 Jurisdiction and the Southern District of New York 32:56 Jurisdiction and Prosecution Tactics 36:41 The Reality of Legal Battles 39:55 Financial Strain and Legal Fees 44:31 Plea Deal Dynamics 52:59 The Absurdity of Charges 1:02:05 The Broader Implications of the Case 1:04:18 The Blanch Memo and Its Implications 1:07:53 The Southern District of New York’s Disregard for Guidelines 1:12:21 The Flawed Prosecution and Lack of Evidence 1:16:55 The Importance of Open Source and Community Action 1:22:40 Hope for the Future and the Call to Action #pardonsamourai #freesamourai
