China has the biggest trade surplus in recent years. And our trade deficit, despite all the tariffs, is projected to be higher than in 2024. At some point, people have to look at the numbers.

The fact that Trump is walking back those tariffs really undermines his own argument that it's only foreigners that pay the tariffs and that consumers are not going to be hurt. Now we have a situation where the White House is arguing that removing tariffs will lower prices on groceries. It's kind of hard to make sense of.
