We import US$ 23 million chicken neck and back is what we import annually to Jamaica, close to US$13 million in beef offals, beef trimmings US$ 16 million, rice US$84 million.... You may ask why there are so many parts of an animal and rice. Most Jamaicans cannot afford chicken, beef, or fish to feed their families, so they must resort to cuts and trimmings. In other words “Di Pot a boil but di food nuh nuff.” Disclaimer: I am not in the PNP's shadow cabinet, so what I am about to say may not contend. But this is something I've been speaking and writing about for years. I would like you to think for yourself and re-examine with data some long-held beliefs that others have tried to impose on you, saying they are supposed to be in your self-interest. Today, I want to highlight and explain just one and why it is a significant reason why our people remain unhealthy with obesity, high blood pressure, and other primary health ailments. They cannot afford to buy a balanced food basket because the cost of chicken is out of their reach. For decades, Jamaica has had 250% duty protection on chicken meat. Globally, the average import duty rate on chicken in other countries is 24%, so why must it be 250% in Jamaica? (it’s actually 260%) Is this really in our people's national interest, or are we serving the interest of a very few individuals, in particular 2 companies? Before you have a knee-jerk reaction to 'yes, it helps local production," let us look at the data rather than an emotion. The International cost breakdown of a chicken is feed (largely corn) at 61%, baby chicks at 18%, housing at 7%, others at 10%, and labor at only 4%. We do not make feed in Jamaica. We don't produce corn. We don't produce wheat or soybean; the inputs that go into feed. What we refer to as feed mills in Jamaica are really big silos and a mixer that blends these imported inputs into the final product, much the same as concrete is composed of sand, stone, cement, and water. But at least in concrete, all the inputs are produced in Jamaica, so the "local " feed is a totally imported product. So, in effect, the local Jamaican direct cost input of chicken is less than 10%. Therefore, I challenge the logic of providing excessive duty protection to any product with a local input of less than 20%, much less chicken, whose input is less than 10%. All the inputs in animal feed are traded as commodities on the world market, like oil; the price fluctuates in keeping with the law of supply and demand. The price of corn has fallen from $801 (US/Bu) April 2022 ,to less than $392.50today ( Check it yourself on on straight mathematical terms with 50% reduction in the cost of feed which represents 61% of the cost input of chicken our chicken prices should have gone down by about 30%, but instead it went up. Who benefits? Certainly not the Jamaican public whose citizens find it hard to afford a whole chicken dinner, certainly not the workers at the factory whose pay remains much the same, and certainly not the Jamaican economy as there has been little or no growth in our agricultural sector generally for years. Did you know that if you apply for a permit to import a container of chicken in any form, the ministry of agriculture first refers the matter to the two chicken monopoly producers to find out if they have any objections? Tell them to challenge me on this! What do you think is their response? With that system in place, there is effectively no real competition in the marketplace. In fact there is no marketplace. You pay what the two local monopolies decide you should pay. Since it’s so obvious, you will wonder why this backward policy has continued. Well, the false theory is that we are saving the livelihood of the 30,000 small farmers. But is this really true?

🚨 WARNING: HSR KFC, Bangalore Extremely Unsafe Food 🚨 One of our followers has shared a shocking and disturbing experience at the KFC outlet in HSR Layout, Bangalore. She had ordered a Hot & Spicy Chicken Zinger Burger, but the moment she opened it, the stench was unbearable. The patty was slimy, rotten, and completely inedible. Believing it might have been a one-off mistake, she requested a replacement, but the second burger turned out to be exactly the same spoiled meat with a foul odor that made her gag. When she confronted the staff, they casually dismissed her complaint, saying, “It’s just the sauce smell.” To make matters worse, instead of addressing the problem, they attempted to replace her chicken burger with a vegetarian one, as if that would make her forget she had paid for chicken. She pointed out that she regularly eats the same burger at KFC Koramangala and has never faced such an issue.The situation grew more concerning when she noticed that other families, including small children, were also eating the same rotten food. Another customer even requested a fresh chicken patty, but what he received was equally foul-smelling and rotten. When customers demanded to see the kitchen which is supposed to be accessible according to the outlet’s own signboard the staff kept making excuses, claiming that after 10 PM entry wasn’t allowed or that the manager wasn’t present. Hey, you 🫵🏿🫵🏿 When making Nigerian fried rice, make sure to FRY YOUR RICE with onions, veg oil and unsalted butter (on low heat for about 3-5 mins) before boiling with chicken or turkey stock. Stock not water 🌚 WASH YOUR RICE MULTIPLE TIMES .. AT LEAST 5 TIMES (the plan is to get as much starch out of the rice as possible .. this is to avoid soggy rice). For seasoning, I only use maggi powder (because my stock is well seasoned so make sure yours is too). If you want that yellow / greenish colour, add curry and turmeric powder. Make sure to FRY your veggies. Fry with unsalted butter and vegetable oil. If you’re using shrimp / prawns .. fry, remove and set aside. Do not fry it with your veggies otherwise it’ll become rubbery and hard. Add once rice is done. If you’re adding liver, boil and fry in a separate pan before adding it to your veggies. You can use fresh or frozen veggies (if you’re using frozen, make sure to defrost it first). In my opinion, less is more with fried rice, don’t over complicate it with veggies. Once again, Setara golden basmati rice is your guy (any golden sella basmati rice will do)

Many Ontarians and visitors to the province must be asking themselves this query given that all Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in Ontario – except, oddly, for those situated in Ottawa and Thunder Bay – are now exclusively using halal chicken. An internal memo written in May recently surfaced noting that this initiative is being undertaken as a “testament to our commitment to provide diverse and inclusive menu options.” Many beg to differ: how is halal-only chicken and the removal of bacon from the menu “inclusive” if one is not a Muslim patron? Indeed, members of other faith groups ranging from Catholics and Hindus to Sikhs say they are forbidden to consume halal-slaughtered meat. So, where exactly is the “inclusivity”? And whatever happened to providing choice on the menu? In other words, why not offer halal as well as non-halal chicken and let the consumer decide what’s best? If you want a good lowcarb or keto friendly sandwich option that hits the spot, this is so easy and so good. The cheese is actually baked into the cheese making a great flatbread or wrap vessel you can use to make your sandwich. Top it however way you want! Here’s how to make it: 1.Preheat your oven to 400F. Grab 1 large zucchini and thinly slice it using a mandoline or vegetable peeler. Thin is key here! 2.Lay your zucchini slices on a paper towel and pat them dry with a paper or kitchen towel. 3.Grab an oven-safe tray, line it with parchment paper, and sprinkle a thin layer of cheddar cheese directly on the parchment paper in two spots, this will be the base of your “bread”. Lay out your zucchini slices slightly overlapping to form a rectangle. Sprinkle on some garlic powder (and smoked paprika on top, then add another thin layer of cheese on top. Thin is key here! 2.Lay your zucchini slices on a paper towel and pat them dry with a paper or kitchen towel. 3.Grab an oven-safe tray, line it with parchment paper, and sprinkle a thin layer of cheddar cheese directly on the parchment paper in two spots, this will be the base of your “bread”. Lay out your zucchini slices slightly overlapping to form a rectangle. Sprinkle on some garlic powder (and smoked paprika on top, then add another thin layer of cheese on top. We’re putting about half a serving of cheese at the bottom and half the top. 4.Pop it in the oven for 15-17 minutes until the edges are golden and the cheese is crisp. Let it cool slightly, about 5 minutes. 5.I used a protein mayo at the base (mixed 2 tbsp greek yogurt with 1/2 tbsp mayo), mustard, some lettuce, ham (you can use turkey or chicken, too), some roasted red peppers, red onion, and more lettuce. 6.Add the top piece, slice diagonally like a regular sandwich, and enjoy. The #McDWW26 Food/Drink awards: 🥇 Top Beverage: This one was a sleeper. I would never have ordered it if I saw it on a menu, but the Dr Pepper Milkshake (with coconut) was one of the best milkshakes I’ve ever had. Not only did I go back 3x a day, but everyone was talking about it. DP probably spent 1/100th of what Coke spent on their booth, yet everyone wanted that DP Shake. I want it in my restaurants tomorrow. I can’t describe the taste besides it was extremely good. 🥇 Top Food Item: Hand breaded Spicy McWings were some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. Malaysia & China switched to this process over a year ago. The CEO of McDonald's made a bold statement on day 1 for the US biz: “Hand breaded chicken - not if but how and when” 🍗 👀 Video below on how they make each wing. I went by this booth for a “snack” 2-4x a day. Would you order these?
