In the film Maachis, the Punjabi Hindu character of Sanatan Kumar becomes symbol of shared loss. Hindus and Sikhs equally experienced grief and loss during the years of Punjab insurgency. What makes his character interesting is that as a Punjabi Hindu, he feels the pain of Sikh suffering because Sikhs are not outsiders for him. His grief is rooted in a shared Punjabi identity, where the suffering of Sikhs is not someone else's tragedy, it is the tragedy of his own people. Similarly, many Sikhs are deeply protective of Punjab's Hindus. They regard the Hindus of Punjab as their own. Where is the outrage?! If the victims were white and the suspect Brown there would be riots. And don't lie to me otherwise!! Sikh woman is dead and the 2nd victim was ALSO Indian/sikh I've now had it confirmed by sources in the community A Sikh woman is dead. Murdered in her own bed laying next to her baby!!! YET Metropolitan Police say this isn't being treated as a hate crime. Why are Sikhs expected to accept less scrutiny, fewer questions and less outrage? Our community deserves the same urgency and transparency as everyone else. The Sikh community should not feel like second-class citizens when seeking answers after such a horrific attack.

Nihang Sikhs visited the abode of Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra, where they were gifted a bag of dry fruits by Hindu Shopkeeper. There was a time when many Sikh pilgrims visited Hindu temples, but this has decreased over time. Sikhs were once devout Devi upasaks and used to undertake the Char Dham Yatra as well. Moreover, Sikhs have been subjected to attacks by these extremists in Australia as well.
