On January 2, Russia has fired at least two missiles into residential areas and the city of Kharkiv. Dozens of civilians were injured, including a six-month-old baby. Rescue teams and all emergency services continue working on site. This is how Russia treats human life – continuing to kill civilians despite all international diplomatic efforts, including those led by the U.S. Russia alone refuses to end this war. Ukraine needs continued international support, including stronger air defence.

A Radio Liberty film crew came under attack by Russian drones in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region. Traveling to and around the city is currently dangerous due to the number of Russian drone attacks. To reduce the risk, Ukrainian Defenders are installing anti-drone nets over roads, both in the city and on its approaches. Russian forces occupying the destroyed city of Bakhmut, eastern Ukraine, where I used to live posted a video this week. It shows the very city center in ruins. I passed this central square every day for two years between 2010-12 and lived just in the building on the right. The square was filled with roses. The city used to bustle with people. After one of the longest and bloodiest battles of Russia’s invasion, it can’t sustain life.

The city, one of so many in Ukraine's Donbas annihilated by Russia, will never see life again.
