Every few years a new silly speed-reading hack becomes popular, here's the latest one: It's called Quantum Speed-Reading (QSR). How does it work? The faster you flip through a book, the faster you 'read' it. Using QSR, kids can 'read' 100,000 words in 5 minutes. Yumiko Tobitani, the creator of QSR, presented no scientific evidence for her method. Instead, she says that "when a book is flipped through at high speed the words are transformed into images and come out as pictures," and that flipping through a book helps you pick up "the thought vibrations emanating from it." QSR training centers are popping up across China and Japan and charging students $860 to teach them this new reading method.

I've kept a pretty low (online) profile of what I'm building, but word's getting out. My company Astro Mechanica has invented a new kind of jet engine. Unlike any existing engine, it's efficient at every speed. Because it's efficient at every speed, we can use it in a new way: as the first stage of an orbital launch vehicle. The resulting platform will get payloads to orbit dramatically cheaper than all-rocket systems - among many possible applications. The key insight is to use electric motors to drive a compressor. That way we can make it spin at any speed, allowing it to "adapt" to it's airspeed and combustion cycle. One of the coolest parts: the video below is of a demonstrator my team and I built last year. We already have a new engine with 10x the thrust that will be complete next month.

You don't really get much generalization across tasks, you teach a model through one kind of learning and then you teach it the next one. It's kind of like whack-a-mole. We look at this and think it's kind of crazy. The next paradigm of AI will not be environment slop." "Human level intelligence is not the ceiling, it is merely the floor on what is possible. If you can train models with vastly less data and possibly more compute in very different ways, what is going to happen? We actually don't know. But I do think they'll be different and weird and they'll have interesting capabilities that we'll find really valuable ways to use."

Codex can now use the in-app browser to test your app at different viewport sizes! It will control the device tool bar and click through your app at different breakpoints to validate & iterate. If it's a long run, Codex will take screenshots at key moments during testing and show them to you at the end of the turn, so you can verify its work. To speed up testing, Codex can hide the IAB to disable animations, and accelerate testing by 1-2x. Separately, we also made annotations send faster and consume less tokens.
