We had one right next to our construction site recently. Put a cone there so all the crews knew where the nest was until we were done, removed the cone and then left her alone.

Stopped a 250 horsepower JD tractor in its tracks. I left spot unplanted the size of the tractor all year. I’ve flagged them with SOLO cups with dirt, surveying flags and a ball cap with dirt to hold in place. Most of my farm neighbors have similar stories and not just bird eggs.

Look how brave she is, trying to protect her unhatched babies 😍❤️. And big 🥰🥰 to the farmer for his compassion ... something we need much more of in this world.

The killdeer bird they act like they are wounded to draw attention from their nest, they are so cool.

It is incredible how the smallest creatures become the absolute fiercest warriors for their young. The split second those wings open, you are looking at the ultimate armor of life. Pure, fearless courage.👇

A Mother's love and protection transcends so species

I can’t even take this. It’s so heartbreaking because although this person did the right thing how many others would just roll right over them. Humans fucking suck.

My friend from this morning agrees

The farm owner:

Had a similar issue in my wood shed. Had to wait for those to hatch before stacking new wood 🤷♂️

The older I get, the more my soul is touched by even the least in the animal kingdom. Matthew 10:29 "Yet not a single sparrow falls to the ground without your Father's knowledge."

so glad the bird could get his attention <3 a mother goes so far and beyond for her kids.. bless them

Farmer heard the bird loud and clear🥰

Birb: "YOU...SHALLL....NOT.....PASSSSSSS!" Tractor:

2 yrs in a row I’ve saved killdeer nests in the driveway using orange safety cones to keep them from getting run over. It’s satisfying to see the little ones running around with mama keeping an eye on them. I’m curious if it’s the same mama both times. Nests in exact same spot.

@xyk_xy

This is what moms do.

The size of mumma trying to stop that big monster. Mothers are fearless.

We used to put pheasant eggs in an incubator after the mother abandoned the eggs when we cut the hay. Pheasants won’t return to sit on the eggs in a barren field.

Someone had better put safety cones, warning flags or something around that poor nest.

Killdeer are great parents but poor real estate pickers.

I'm reminded of what the great philosopher, Ted Nugent, once said. When you kill a deer in the wild, you take that one animal in his habitat. When you eat a salad, you have to kill every living thing in all of those fields, including mice, voles, insects, rabbits, birds, etc.

Mrs. Brisby be like "ALL THAT EFFORT AND PAIN AND ALL I HAD TO DO WAS THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. The road to Heaven is paved with good deeds.

I have this happen to me every year. I flagged them off to make sure I don’t hit them when spraying later as well. The peanuts are looking good also. I have to say I thought I was one of the few that still cultivate peanuts.

The bird sees something the size of the Empire State building coming at it and is like "Bring it on!!!" 😆

"Am truly sorry mans dominion has broken natures social union, and justifies the ill-opinion which makes thee startle at me(!) Thy Poor earthborne companion, and fellow mortal..' - Robert Burnes, after turning up a nest with a plow

People like this should rule the world.

Great result. Side note, when I tell vegans I'm a carnivore they say how can you do that to animals. Um, plowing fields for your veggies kills thousands of nesting birds, snakes, rodents, etc. Me, I eat a bison that spent its life pasture grazing and was humanely euthanized.

I’m truly sorry Man’s dominion Has broken Nature’s social union, An’ justifies that ill opinion, Which makes thee startle, At me, thy poor, earth-born companion, An’ fellow-mortal! Robert Burns: On Turning her up in her Nest, with the Plough, November 1785.

Your a good man - - Thank you

@Stephen3967r Former harvester/fieldworker here. 👏👏👏 to the driver for their compassion.

The bravest of birds, they’ve fronted up to me when I was really close on my ride on mower and I hadn’t seen their nest. Always have to go round.
