Stopping production on this unfinished Roblox cinematic was honestly one of the hardest moments of my career. A while ago, I promised the community I’d eventually share what we had been building internally at Roblox. Here it is. This project was a labor of love between an incredibly talented group of Roblox devs, animators, artists, and creators. From the beginning, it was important to us that this cinematic was built by the community, for the community, using assets entirely created on Roblox. Every map, character, and object was ported directly from Roblox and re-rigged in Maya, building on a lot of what we learned during the reboot of the Bloxys. We had to invent new workflows, break things constantly, and figure out processes as we went just to make it possible. We intentionally made it harder on ourselves because we wanted to push the limits of what Roblox could look and feel like at a cinematic level. The music and sound design were also original, though still unfinished. Entire sequences only ever existed as storyboards and concept art created by Roblox devs and artists. Ironically, pieces of this project later ended up scattered across ads and trailers after my time at Roblox. At its core, this was meant to be a love letter to the community. Hope you enjoy it <3

People are debating gambling these days. A lot of the focus is on prediction markets---but our youngest children are gambling in Roblox, not prediction markets. What values are we inculcating in our children as they inhabit their first algorithmic nation? For my latest blog post, Branden and I decided to find out. We spent a week playing the 30 most trending games on Roblox. Watch the video below for a walkthrough of what we did and what we found, using MY MINING BRAINROTS as an example. What we found really surprised me. --Gambling-like mechanics are ubiquitous among the most popular games: the median game has 8! --Some of these mechanics are incredibly predatory. The worst is a "chained purchase" mechanic in which young children are enticed to spend digital currency to buy a good, only to discover that the purchase is just the first installment in an undisclosed sequence they must make to get the items they want. --The games all copy each other. They are not independently inventing these mechanics; rather, there's a shared underlying architecture of gambling being used by everyone. We conclude our piece with some recommendations for Roblox and policymakers. --Roblox should urgently experiment with alternative mechanics to help developers align on different, better models for designing and monetizing games. --Policymakers need access to systematic measurement of these bundles, and should take action to force transparency and potentially outlaw some or many of them. We applaud Governor Hochul for calling for strong, consistent online safety protections in New York and for outlining sensible priorities for legislation. Several of the Governor’s priorities, including default-off settings for minors and parental controls, are safeguards we have already implemented on Roblox. Another, advanced age verification, is currently being rolled out globally. Estimating the age of users who want to communicate on Roblox helps limit kids to chatting with other kids, not unknown adults by default. We also go further in key areas of online safety. For example, we do not allow users to send each other images or videos on our platform. This work is ongoing, and we know no system is perfect, so we continue to strengthen protections to help keep users safe, as well as working to educate parents about online safety. While the legislative process is just beginning in New York, we are supportive of the Governor’s online safety initiative and the priorities she has outlined. We look forward to reviewing the details of the proposal and working collaboratively on these efforts to make the digital world safer for children.

We’re on the verge of interactive, real-time, photorealistic video generation with what are called World Models. These require a fair amount of expensive compute, but costs will come down over time. This is an early look at turning solitary AI dreams into a social, playable reality.

Yesterday, an area of the Baitul Mukarram Mosque building in Montreal, QC was lit on fire. The damage is extremely extensive and destructive, but thankfully no one has been hurt. Authorities have been alerted to the incident and are investigating what happened as a possible arson attack, along with possible hate motivations. We strongly urge the public wait for full facts to be confirmed and to refrain from speculations. We are on the ground and in touch with all parties, including authourities. I am very worried about some of the things I’m hearing from people involved in Restore in an official capacity. For instance, Orla Minihane talks of “wrong’uns” and “extremists” she wants to gatekeep from positions in the party. We need Rupert Lowe MP to outline what he considers to be “extreme” and if it includes people who want remigration and are willing to say things like “England for the English” then Restore is over before it’s started. What differentiates Restore from Reform or Advance if we aren’t going to be allowed to talk about demographics? I trust Rupert and I trust his core team, but we need clarity on this and quickly.

Hello TeamYouTube My channel "Bloxies" was demonetized last week for "inauthentic content." We do not mass produce or create anything inauthentic, it is Roblox roleplay and skit content. We ideate, script, film, edit and produce every piece of content. Here is the production process... I am simply requesting a human review as I have gotten denied through the standard appeal process with a generic copy/paste response and the unlisted Appeal video was not reviewed as it has no views.
