Kong Harald 1937 - 2026

🇳🇴 Before he became Norway’s king, Harald was a 3-year-old refugee fleeing the Nazis. When Nazi Germany invaded Norway in 1940, young Prince Harald and his mother and sisters fled the country. They eventually reached the United States, where the family lived in exile during the war. His father and grandfather remained in Britain, where Norway's government operated in exile. In 1945, 8-year-old Harald returned to a liberated Norway. Decades later, he would become its king. Today, Norway mourns the boy who survived a war and grew up to serve his country for more than 30 years. 🇳🇴

Not many can do what he did. With his speeches he united a nation. Young and old, black and white, rich and poor - he saw everyone. He was inclusive, warm and caring. He was our king and our nations “grandpa”. May he rest in peace ❤️🕊️

As a Muslim, he was one of the few people I truly loved and respected! He was a kind hearted king! My deepest condolences to all of Norway and the Norwegian people.
