Here is the clip and transcript for Johann answering why Robinhood chose to build its own Ethereum L2: "You see a lot of companies right now building their own L1. And for us, we felt excited about this idea where we can control anything that we want to build and we don't have to deal with any other chain to talk to or anything like that. But at the same time, creating the security of a real proper decentralized chain is extremely difficult, as you know. And we basically get that for free with Ethereum. The network has been going on for a very long time now and the security is stable and it's decentralized. And I think that's really the key two points that we wanted to have. When you look at some of these new L1s that are being created, it's not really decentralized and it's not really secure. So at the end of the day, you're basically having like a... fancy database that is probably a bit slower to use than an actual database. And so we didn't really see the value in that. With Ethereum, we get the security by default. The second thing that we get by having an L2 is that you get all this liquidity that is already part of all the EVM compatible chains. And that was also a very important decision factor for us. If we really want to bring the stock market onto the chain, we need to have this liquidity. It's not going to be possible if it's in a closed loop or in a closed chain that nobody can access and you need to have like 20 different hoops before you can bridge to that chain. So for us, that was kind of the two elements that we really wanted to focus on and that's why we decided on building on Ethereum. And then we decided on Arbitrum mostly because we love the technology. There's a few things that we are excited about. For example, Stylus. It's a way that we can basically use different language into the chain and we can build on top of that. We also like the way that they prioritize transactions that is, we think, a better way than some of the competition. And so basically we'll use the Arbitrum stack and we'll create our own L2, which will make us also compatible with all the Arbitrum chains. And so we think it's kind of the best of all the worlds. But for us, the idea is like we will start with public stock, and then we think that we can tokenize anything really, not just stocks. It can be private stock, it can be art, it can be real estate, whatever you want to think of. And so we really wanted to have a platform that is kind of easy to build on and we can keep adding on it. At the same time, we know that regulation are going to be hard on some of these products, especially when it comes to financial products. You always have different regulators. You have different rules depending on the region. If you're in the EU versus the US versus LATAM. And so we felt like we wanted to have our own layer that we could customize for these needs. And then anyone that is building on the chain will also be able to benefit from what we are building, versus just putting everything in a contract that will be just good for the people that are using the Robinhood contracts. But so at this point, we announced the chain in June. We are in private test right now, and then we'll do more announcements in the future." 99% of AI applications are cool-looking demos. Impressive, but don't get fooled by the hype. It takes a lot to build enterprise-grade products that deliver real value. I have at least three weekly conversations with companies that want to use a Large Language Model with their data. The demand is huge! Here is one idea about what you can do to help. The use cases that most of these companies want to solve are similar: They have an extensive knowledge base and want to build a simple application that uses that information to answer questions. In other words, they need help building Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) applications they can use in many different scenarios: 1. To train new employees 2. To help their support team 3. To search old meetings and documents 4. To help with their research However, building these systems is not straightforward. Yes, there's a lot of information online, but there aren't enough people who know how to create solutions that work. Here is the idea: Today, you can build an enterprise-grade RAG application without writing code. A couple of MIT PhDs with 10+ years of experience building AI applications created . It's a no-code platform for building applications using Large Language Models. They are partnering with me on this post. You can use Stack AI to create, test, and deploy an end-to-end production-ready AI system. It's SOC-2, HIPAA, and GDPR compliant and offers SSO, role management, access control, and on-premise deployments. Of course, you can use the platform with any LLM on the market now. “Well, thank you all for tuning in to the first episode of The Jeremy Boreing Show. You know, it's never really been my ambition to have a podcast. For the decade that I was running The Daily Wire, people would often ask me, 'When are you going to get your own show?' And my answer was always the same. 'They're all my show,' I would say. But they're not anymore. Now, if I want to talk to you, I have to do it directly and that's a new challenge. It's not where I thought I would be in life, not where I wanted to be. It's been a huge change leaving The Daily Wire. Not one that I had ever seen coming. But I'm glad to have this opportunity where we might explore some of the issues facing the country and the movement together. You know, I used to say that my mission in life was to fight the left and build the future. And for the most part, that mission hasn't changed but I do see now that there are threats to our freedom, threats to our future that aren't exclusively on the left. Some of them are on the right. The left is still the bigger threat, but you can't defeat an organized left unless you have a healthy right. And so it's incumbent on all of us who believe in the country, who who believe that America is a force for good in the world, who believe in the founding creed of the country that all men are created equal, that we're endowed by our creator with unalienable rights. Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, who believe in our founding documents, who believe in our constitution, who believe that our best days can truly still be ahead, that we can bequeath to our children a future of freedom, a future of prosperity, and a future of virtue. Perhaps even more so than what was bequeathed to us, it's incumbent that we be the ones building that future. And so today I say that the purpose of this show is to fight for freedom and build the future. I don't know if we'll be a huge show or a small show. I don't know if we'll have rocket ship success like we had at The Daily Wire. I don't know if we'll be a top 10 podcast like The Ben Shapiro Show, The Candace Owens Show, or The Joe Rogan Show… and that's really not our ambition. I mean... The bigger, the better. We'd be very happy. But our ambition is really to be a part of the conversation, a constructive part of the conversation, to remind everyone of the optimism that we're called to in Christ, to remind everyone of our mission as Americans, which is to spread freedom and our mission as Christians, not tribal political Christians who use the gospel as a cudgel, but actual believing Christians. Our mission has always been the same, and that's to proclaim Christ in the world and the power of salvation that comes through the power of his gospel. And so that's what we're going to do together. It's not all going to be politics; it never was. Building the future is about building businesses, it's about building voices, it's about building institutions, it's about building culture, and all of those things are in flux today. Hollywood isn't what it was even a year ago, much less a decade ago. Politics has changed just in the year that I've been out of public life. Machines are on their way. They're replacing jobs, even as we speak. We don't know what the institutions of the future will look like. We don't know what the politics of the future will look like. We don't know what the culture of the future will look like but we know that if we aren't a part of building it, then we won't be a part of it. And so build it, we will, together. Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, who believe in our founding documents, who believe in our constitution, who believe that our best days can truly still be ahead, that we can bequeath to our children a future of freedom, a future of prosperity, and a future of virtue. Perhaps even more so than what was bequeathed to us, it's incumbent that we be the ones building that future. And so today I say that the purpose of this show is to fight for freedom and build the future. I don't know if we'll be a huge show or a small show. I don't know if we'll have rocket ship success like we had at The Daily Wire. I don't know if we'll be a top 10 podcast like The Ben Shapiro Show, The Candace Owens Show, or The Joe Rogan Show… and that's really not our ambition. I mean... The bigger, the better. We'd be very happy. But our ambition is really to be a part of the conversation, a constructive part of the conversation, to remind everyone of the optimism that we're called to in Christ, to remind everyone of our mission as Americans, which is to spread freedom and our mission as Christians, not tribal political Christians who use the gospel as a cudgel, but actual believing Christians. Our mission has always been the same, and that's to proclaim Christ in the world and the power of salvation that comes through the power of his gospel. And so that's what we're going to do together. It's not all going to be politics; it never was. Building the future is about building businesses, it's about building voices, it's about building institutions, it's about building culture, and all of those things are in flux today. Hollywood isn't what it was even a year ago, much less a decade ago. Politics has changed just in the year that I've been out of public life. Machines are on their way. They're replacing jobs, even as we speak. We don't know what the institutions of the future will look like. We don't know what the politics of the future will look like. We don't know what the culture of the future will look like but we know that if we aren't a part of building it, then we won't be a part of it. And so build it, we will, together. And I think that our policymakers need to be very cognizant of that fact. You have, and we do, connect to the internet using high speed cable, high speed fiber optic throughout the world, and so theoretically, if we don't embrace and allow the economic development of the datacenter industry, and it will fundamentally be an industry because it is almost like the new oil, if we don't put them here, someone else will put them on their shores. Someone else will put them in their country, someone else will put them in their jurisdiction, and a lot of the economic value that arises from the people that will build those facilities, the energy that will be installed to produce power for those facilities, and then all of the second and third order industries that emerge as a result of those installations, that value will accrue elsewhere. The demand is there. The economy's moving forward, AI's moving forward. Datacenters do not take up a lot of space. They're very small relative to the economic value that they produce. If you zoom out on the map of the world, all the datacenters in the world fit under the tip of a pin, and so this is a very small footprint. If we're going to give up hundreds of thousands of jobs and many billions of dollars of economic value creation, we're being pretty silly and pretty obtuse in our view of the world. Provided datacenters are producing their own electricity, that means that you're taking electricity consumption off the grid because they otherwise are not being used on the grid, and that will reduce the cost of electricity for other residential and industrial users. So it's silly to think that we need to put a moratorium on datacenters. As soon as you do that, the companies that use datacenters are not going to slow down. They're going to go put them somewhere else, and we're going to miss out.

And the abundance ethos harkens back to the old ideas that existed from the turn of the twentieth century through the 1960s — that we should be building up government power so that government is capable of taking on these corporations. That we have people in government who can make discretionary decisions about where we're going to build transmission lines, how we're going to improve transit, where we're going to build housing, how we're going to regulate this and that. We want bureaucracies to be able to move speedily and make decisions in the public interest. It's the reforms we've seen since the 60s and 70s that have slowed government down so they cannot be responsive to the corporate challenge. The idea that we should abandon abundance in the name of attacking corporations misses the point that government should be a competent institution that can accurately — and thoroughly — review and challenge corporations when they're doing wrong.
