He’s not wrong. You scroll through YouTube and suddenly every thumbnail has the same shocked face, wide eyes, open mouth, pointing finger, just different background.

They do this because they test which thumbnails perform the best. And if they have a formula that works, but don't exactly understand why, they figure they might as well reuse it.
