October 5th, 2021. 🗓️ Red Sox beat the Yankees 6-2 in the final year of the 1-game WC Round. Arguably my favorite game ever. Jerry Remy’s last time at Fenway. Xander Bogaerts going deep in the 1st. Kyle Schwarber’s majestic homer. Nasty Nate shoving. The Judge relay. Cinema.

Jake Schaffner transferred to UNC from North Dakota State heading into his Junior season in 2026. 68 Games .356/.467/.552/1.019 6 HR 19 2B 8 3B 26 of 29 SB Scrappy dude. Hit over power. Doesn’t swing-and-miss much. Arm strength points to 2B, but he’s reliable at shortstop. 60-runner, but it’s viewed as plus speed with good instincts. Seems like the type of profile the Red Sox think they can unlock more power from. Clear underslot pick.

Transfer News: Augusta (D-II) SS Kyle Lodise has entered the transfer portal. Was the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year in 2023, and this season he had a career year to the tune of a .369/.498/.693 slash line with 27 XBH (14 HRs), 49 RBIs, 24 SB, and 43 BB to 27 Ks. Athletic build at 6' and 180-pounds. Simple setup in the box - stands tall with a slight bend in his knees and a medium-high handset. Normal stride, hands drift a little bit in his load. Lodise's explosive athleticism is on display both in the box and on the dirt. Compact operation with plus bat speed, consistently gets of quick/tight turns with his hips. Sound approach with advanced barrel skills. Has shown this year the ability to back spin the baseball to all fields, but especially to the pull side where he generates the highest quality of contact. Quick feet with good instincts/ever-improving game clock at shortstop. Plenty of range in either direction, has shown he is comfortable attacking the baseball and throwing on the run/from different arm angles. Would give the arm a 55. Lodise is the first really intriguing name to hit the portal and it will be interesting to see where he eventually lands.

INF Kodey Shojinaga (Kansas Baseball) is an intriguing Sophomore-eligible prospect. Was outstanding as a true Freshman and hit .378/.421/.526 with 11 2B, 6 HR, and 32 RBIs. Also slashed .326/.396/.349 across 11 games on the Cape. Shojinaga was named Co-Freshman of the Year in the Big 12 and earned a Team USA invitation. Medium build at 5'10", 190-lbs with some physicality in the lower-half. Slightly open front side in the box with a normal handset. Holds bat horizontally over his back shoulder with the barrel pointed slightly back. Medium-high leg kick, but the stride itself is small. Little bit of a bat wrap, but he's consistently on time. Average bat speed. Hit over power profile right now, but Shojinaga has an advanced feel for the barrel and plus bat-to-ball skills. Last season, he sported a 93% overall IZ contact rate. Approach is sound, but sometimes chases down/away. Does a nice job of using the whole field and working inside the baseball. Would put a 55 on the pure hit tool. Sound defender at 2B with above average arm strength and makes the plays he needs to make. He has quick hands and some range in either direction. Shojinaga also has experience catching, and got some reps behind the plate this summer for Team USA. Will be interesting to see what it would look like if he focused on catching - actions need refining, but the arm strength is there. Shojinaga will need to really hit, and he's capable of doing so. This July, he profiles as a 5th-8th round pick.

Most competitive 49ers' training camp practice so far ended Block 3 — fittingly, it coincided with Kyle Shanahan's return to the podium. Some highlights: 🏈Upton Stout will be a HUGE part of this defense. Pick 6 on a Brock Purdy-to-Demarcus Robinson try today. Raheem Morris said Stout is SF's starting "Star" — that was Jalen Ramsey's versatile position in LA's defense 🏈OL/DL 1-on-1s didn't go well for Connor Colby, who lost multiple reps (rookie James Thompson got him twice). Robert Jones continued as top LG. Brett Toth (concussion) watched from sideline 🏈Romello Height had a fun multi-rep battle with Colton McKivitz. Slipped lost Round 1, then jumped offsides twice, then ripped out a wicked inside spin move — speedy potential on full display. Height says he picks Trent Williams' brain after practice (smart move, per sources) 🏈De'Zhaun Stribling was back in team drills. Purdy's first pass: Crisp out-breaker to the rookie, who continues to look polished and explosive. Stribling did log a catch vs Stout on another out later on 🏈Biggest offensive play came when 49ers spread defense out with Stribling and Co. to set up Purdy-to-McCaffrey on a 25-yard post 🏈The logjam of young DTs — Sebastian Valdez, Bryson Eason, and James Thompson — will be interesting to sort out. All are flashing. Alfred Collins had a big pass bat-down today, one of his specialties 🏈Jordan Watkins has had some struggles over the middle and today he dropped an intermediate crosser in traffic from Adrian Martinez 🏈Nice adjustment from Junior Bergen on a similar route but with Kurtis Rourke at QB. Throw was a touch late and behind Bergen but the gritty young WR made it work. His good camp continues 🏈Best practice so far for vet CB Nate Hobbs, who notched 3 pass breakups, including one vs Bergen. Hobbs has been most effective inside during his career but he also knocked two boundary passes away today 🏈Soaring TD catch in end-of-game red-zone work from 6-2 rookie WR Wesley Grimes on a throw from Mac Jones 🏈Purdy found Luke Farrell for a last-second TD during his first turn of this hurry-up work. Farrell's pass-game usage has gone way up this camp; looks like a trusted target for 13 now 🏈Deommodore Lenoir INT of Purdy came on the first team's second red-zone try. Fourth down as time expired, so Purdy had to force a throw since no one was open and the "game" was on the line. Lenoir undercut Robinson 🏈Big run stop from rookie DT Gracen Halton, who's one of the most vocal players on the field. When Halton makes a play, you typically hear it from the sideline 🏈Fred Warner notched a lunging PBU, showcasing that rare 6-4 LB height, and also scooped up a possible early fumble for a return TD 🏈49ers will be off Sunday before returning for their fourth 2-practice block on Monday, the second of which will be a joint session with Robert Saleh and the Titans — so the work is ramping up at just the right time
