I think the Ethereum Barbell strategy will prove right. This is how Vitalik explains it: "Ethereum's barbell strategy of L1 and L2 is basically that L2s do the thing that require centralization and they get the benefits of centralization which includes the ability to do HFT but at the same time they benefit from L1 providing security and censorship resistance" HFT = high frequency trading. He's saying speeding up slot times to the millisecond enters you into a reduce bandwidth increase latency arms race that leads to centralization of block production and validation - see nasdaq. If we know this is the inevitable destination of hyperfast chains then we can put the "dictator in a box" by incenting them to become L2s on Ethereum Ethereum L1 = store of value + slower defi Ethereum L2s = high velocity + HFT defi Ethereum playing 3D chess.

Parachains ≠ L2s L2s extract value from Ethereum, whilst Parachains are the product of Polkadot. In Ethereum, L2s are add-ons that offload pressure, turning the L1 into a rollup host. But Polkadot’s whole proposition is parachains. They’re not bolted on - they’re core. Unlike Ethereum, Polkadot never used its L1 to host smart contracts directly. This isn’t a limitation - it's by design. The DOT that goes into Acala is still immediately transferable into Moonbeam - so the capital flows a lot easier between the L2 Different intent, different architecture. Gavin Wood explains 👇

We were excited about this idea of controlling everything you want to build, but creating the security of a real, proper, decentralized chain is extremely difficult, and you basically get that for free with Ethereum.” “When you look at some of these new L1s that are being created: it’s not really decentralized and it’s not really secure — at the end of the day it’s basically a fancy database that’s a bit slower to use than an actual database, so we didn’t really see the value in that. "How about you use the risk diode I taught you and don't advertise [bad thing] like an idiot?" He posted about pDAI 33 times. Is pDAI some sort of magical exception to the rule? Gavin on why people misunderstand what makes TSMC so valuable: "One of the most undervalued pieces of the supply chain story is that almost none of these things are buy it once and never talk to the vendor again. You have to go collaborate. That is the most important part of being successful in chips. People look at the tech, and the tech is the best in the world. But the real value is all in the service. TSMC's customer service is way better than I've seen at any company in any industry. If you say, we think you can improve your yield by making this change, they will go run an experiment on their own dime to see if they can get the higher yield. When we found we were right and it worked, they moved it over to the rest of the line. If I go to a steelworks plant and say I want you to change the composition of the steel, they'll say screw you. Not TSMC. It's why they're number one, and why they're going to win."
