Since then, we've worked with communities all over Canada to legalize housing, and to make it faster and easier to build homes. We’ve worked to build more homes near transit, more homes for students, and more homes at prices folks can actually afford. The progress is picking up across the country. In Halifax, there’s been a 40% increase in building permits in the last year. In London, starts increased by 65%. In Kitchener, they donated land to help create 10,000 homes. Over in Brandon Manitoba, they created incentives to get builders building more homes in their downtown, while the City of Saanich focused on pre-zoning university-owned sites so that students can live closer to where they study at the University of Victoria. We've got further to go, and we’ll keep working to get you into a home, faster. Stay tuned for the next round of Housing Accelerator Fund deals!

Mamdani: Yesterday I did something I'm truly reluctant to do. I left New York City. I traveled down to Washington, D.C. to meet with President Trump. I have said time and again that our city faces an immense affordability crisis. I proposed working together to build more than 12,000 new homes. It would mean the single largest housing development New York City has seen since 1973. The president was interested in the idea and I look forward to the ensuing conversations about how to build more housing in a city that doesn't have enough of it.
