As a result of Liberal Party action, the legislation has been narrowed, strengthened and properly focused on keeping Australians safe.

I say to Sussan Ley, don’t cut a dodgy backroom deal with Labor on their legislation before Parliament. These proposals have been rushed. They haven’t been reviewed properly and we don’t know the unintended consequences on the freedom of Australians to have genuine debate. Parliament won’t even see what’s in the Bill until tomorrow morning, on the same day we are expected to pass it under a gag on debate! Let’s take the time to get the law right and focus on stamping out the real problem, fundamentalist Islamic extremism. That’s what Australians expect politicians to do.

The Australian people have spoken on Labor’s dystopian Digital ID legislation and firmly rejected it. Tomorrow I will table a petition signed by 65,724 people calling on the Senate to repeal this insidious legislation. I want to express my thanks and admiration for these Australians standing for their privacy rights and the individual freedoms that this legislation seeks to undermine. I also want to acknowledge the courage of the thousands of Australians who gathered in cities around the country on the 5th of May to protest this legislation. In contrast to the hatred and violence of the useful idiots on university campuses, these protests were peaceful, orderly and stood for Australian values rather than the genocide of Israelis. One Nation is committed to the repeal of this legislation, effectively a joint effort by Labor and the Coalition to monitor and control the Australian people. We know the former Coalition government spent about 600 million dollars preparing for a national digital ID system. We know Labor has allocated another 288 million dollars in the Budget. We know this bill was rushed through the Senate with no debate and no scrutiny. We can safely predict it will sail through the House of Representatives – perhaps even today. We know Labor says it will be voluntary, but we also know this is a lie because the bill has provisions to make it mandatory in several circumstances. But thanks to this petition, we also know that many Australians are opposed to it and I call on the Senate to act accordingly.

They’re riddled with unintended consequences, stitched together in a secret backroom deal by a desperate Opposition Leader more focused on saving her own skin than holding Labor to account. These laws won’t stop a terrorist attack. What they will do is put innocent Australians at risk of jail. This is some of the worst legislation ever dumped on the floor of the Australian Parliament. A knee-jerk fix that creates bigger problems than it pretends to solve.

And let’s not forget the irony of Albanese sneaking the Misinformation & Disinformation Bill into Parliament on the same day of the US Presidential election - for such legislation would never see the light of day in the USA - because it would be a violation of the US Constitution. Its time for Australia to have a Bill of Rights to protect free speech - because as Albanese has demonstrated, we can’t trust out politicians.
