As a girl raised in the south, who has been to Cotillion, multiple etiquette classes, a school for young ladies, and was sent to an etiquette class on the East Coast… This is 100% how we were taught in every single one.

Yes. This is the proper way to eat bread and butter. Take one pass on the butter with your knife, put it on your plate. Tear off a piece of bread and butter it. Eat and enjoy.

This is basically taught in every table etiquette class. I learned it this way in home ec decades ago.
