UPDATE ON ENFORCEMENT OPERATION: REMOVAL OF ILLEGAL SQUATTERS ON THE MEDIAN ALONG ORILE–OKOKOMAIKO, BADAGRY EXPRESSWAY Acting on the Governor’s directive issued on Saturday, 27 June 2027, a joint enforcement operation is being carried out to remove illegal squatters, shanties, makeshift structures, and unauthorised trading activities on the road median along the Orile–Okokomaiko axis of the Badagry Expressway. The operation commenced as scheduled and focused on clearing all illegal structures and dislodging unauthorised occupants from the affected corridor. Enforcement personnel maintained order throughout the exercise while ensuring that the median was restored for its intended public use and that the right-of-way was protected. Following the inspection visit to the Opebi–Mende Bridge yesterday, a team from LAWMA has commenced full clearance operations at Cane Village, Mende after Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps dislodged the miscreants and illegal traders under the bridge. All illegal shanties, makeshift structures, and waste deposits are being cleared to restore order and environmental sanity in the area. This exercise is part of our sustained efforts to secure public infrastructure and prevent the return of squatters who had converted the underbelly of the bridge into homes and shops. #CleanerLagos #GreaterLagos

Mahmoud Adegbite Olakunle Adegbite ; the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Dr. Gaji Omobolaji Tajudeen; Lagos State Taskforce Chairman, CSP Adebayo Akerele; Managing Director LAWMA Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, PhD and other Directors from the Ministry, I inspected the ongoing removal of illegal structures along the Lagos–Okokomaiko–Badagry Expressway. The exercise is being carried out by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), LAWMA, and other relevant stakeholders. The expansive road median was deliberately constructed by the Lagos State Government to accommodate the Lagos Rail Mass Transit project. As a major gateway into Nigeria from other West African countries, this corridor is of significant economic and strategic importance and reflects the image of our state. It is therefore unacceptable for such critical public infrastructure, built with taxpayers’ resources, to be occupied by illegal traders and other unauthorised occupants. We want to assure Lagosians that the State Government will sustain regular monitoring and enforcement along this corridor. A permanent patrol team will be deployed to ensure that illegal occupants do not return, while preserving the integrity and intended purpose of this vital infrastructure. #ZeroToleranceLagos

Over the past three weeks, our enforcement team has intensified the clearance of shanties, illegal structures, and other environmental nuisances along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway. This exercise will be followed by sustained surveillance and continuous monitoring to ensure that environmental order is restored and maintained along the corridor. We urge members of the public to respect and preserve our environment by refraining from converting public spaces into illegal markets or for any unauthorized private use. Anyone found encroaching on public spaces or using them for unlawful purposes will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the extant laws of Lagos State. #ZeroToleranceLagos
