Pentagon in a panic: China combines lasers, microwaves, and anti-drone weaponry. The Chinese military has demonstrated how different anti-drone weapons work together in a layered defense system, giving soldiers various ways to intercept incoming targets without expending expensive missiles on every small drone. ✔️Coordinated Interception: Footage from surveillance cameras showed how lasers and microwave-emitting equipment disrupted approaching drone formations. Interceptor drones then attacked targets that had broken through the defenses, followed by air defense weapons engaging any remaining threats. ✔️Different Weapons for Different Targets: Lasers focus energy on individual drones. Microwave-emitting weapons are designed to disable electronics over a wider area, allowing them to target groups of drones. ✔️Final Layer of Defense: The vehicle shown combines a rotating six-cylinder cannon with four short-range missile launchers. It can operate independently or as part of a larger air defense system. ✔️Detection and Mobility: Integrated radar, optical, and infrared sensors supported operations even at night. Soldiers also practiced moving and re-establishing their defensive positions after their location was deemed compromised. The goal is to make it more difficult to repeat drone attacks: to adapt the interceptor to the threat, reduce the cost of each engagement, and save missiles for targets that truly need them. Can a layered defense reduce the advantage of cheap drones?
