Last night’s moderate #SolarFlare likely released more energy than the majority of larger X-class events. Why? Flare classifications are determined by the flare’s peak emission. Although last night’s flare capped at an M3 level, it continued releasing energy for over 12 hours!

BREAKING – A significant Earth-directed solar flare and associated coronal mass ejection (CME) just occurred on Friday evening. There is an increasing chance of geomagnetic storms and the potential for a display of the aurora borealis (northern lights) sometime Sunday night into Monday. A "solar flare" is a flash of light and radiation flickering into space. They emanate from sunspots – bruise-like discolorations on the surface of the sun that throb and pulsate with energy. That just occurred associated with sunspot #4100. The flare was a magnitude M8.2; M is one step below X, the highest category. An M8.2 is very close to X-class status. It was followed by a "full halo CME", or coronal mass ejection. That's an explosion of magnetism and solar material that surfs a shockwave through space. The Kuwaiti army says the T1 terminal at Kuwait’s airport saw significant damage after last night’s drone & missile attacks from Iran. The damage was likely caused by failed Kuwaiti interceptors as the Iranian attacks were targeting Ali al Salem Air Base & Arifjan base, which are nowhere near Kuwait’s airport. A particular footage from last night already showed the failure of an interceptor missile in Kuwait (giving the fireworks effect,) but I cannot independently verify its location.

Why is the energy at the end of every (poker) series always so grim? More than half the players in this $3k NLH at World Poker Tour Wynn look like they died inside last week. The other half looks emotionally bankrupt. Ironically, I actually enjoyed busting my second bullet with AA all-in pre. It gave me a standard bad beat story everyone’s tired of hearing about… which perfectly matched the energy in the room. Third bullet incoming. Maybe I’ll see more smiles 🙃

A Canadian renewable corporation is trying to build an 1,800 acre solar complex on one of the last grasslands of its kind in the northeast. Boralex, soon to be Brookfield, will likely be awarded its final permit by ORES (Office of Renewable Energy Siting) next week. We are prepared to sue over it. I recorded this video at the grasslands this past winter. It’s one of the last homes for short-eared owls in New York State. It’s such an important habitat that the New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation covered the grassland in “critical endangered species present” signage. Apparently that doesn’t matter when a foreign solar corporation comes to town.

In the last 38 hours we've had 1.7 and 1.1 X-flares from the Sun, earthquake activity off the coast of Japan (M6.8, M6.4, M6.0) has becoming worrying and looking like foreshock activity for a BIG earthquake (M8+), and we're now in a S1 radiation storm from the 2nd X-flare. Multiple solar storm impacts are expected over the next few days. Big linear planetary alignment occurs on the 20th with the Sun, Mercury, Moon, Earth, and Uranus with Pluto and Saturn+Neptune in harmonic aspects. Yikes...

The volatility - yes, volatility - in AR 4366 is absolutely unbelievable. I don't think I have ever used the word 'volatility' to describe an active region. The X-ray flux has been mostly above the M-class threshold for *35 hours* now. There have been 25+ M-class and 4 X-class flares. It is unfortunate that most of these flares are impulsive, else we'd have a train of CMEs en route and likely impacting by now. Even so, the show is incredible, one of the highlights of Solar Cycle 25 - we will be talking about this for a long time!

We've now had two 2.5 x-flares from sunspot 4419 over the last 12 hours, both launching gigantic coronal mass ejections outwards pretty much in the direction of Comet C/2025 R3 PANSTARRS. Surprisingly we're not in a radiation storm yet, and plasma headed to Earth from these events seems to be minimal, but sunspot 4420 is nearly Earth-direct now and 4423 following just behind just blasted off a 1.7 m-flare. As Comet R3 PANSTARRS continues to fly across Earth-facing while cutting through the ecliptic plane just outside the orbit of Mercury, my forecast is that we're most likely to enhanced activity from 4420 and 4423 as well over the next 2-3 days. Keep in mind the comet will begin experiencing #spaceweather from the CMEs very soon, and that will energize it electromagnetically even further, perhaps pronouncing this Comet-Sun effect we're seeing even further...
