To suggest that ending segregation and expanding access to education, jobs, and opportunity somehow “hurt” white Americans is not only false, it is an insult to the truth and to the countless white Americans who stood for justice alongside us. The Civil Rights Movement was never about lowering standards. It was about ending exclusion. It was about making sure people with merit were no longer denied opportunity because of the color of their skin. Equal rights do not take anything away from anyone.
