Remember when deceased voice actors had their roles taken up by other VAs who were able to replicate their voice, instead of using advanced TTS technology to synthesize the voice?

To put it bluntly, an AI could have done your job here based on how uncritically this was reported. Which is why you should have reported critically on it. There is nothing scary about AI. The scary part is what inhumane things humans with profit incentives will do with it.
