The cause of that Miami runway crash is still unknown, and that is exactly why people want answers. Around 2 p.m. yesterday, an Amazon-branded Boeing 767 from San Juan overshot the runway at Miami International, hit several vehicles, and came to rest in a field. Officials confirm at least five people are dead. Three more were taken to a trauma center in critical condition, and two others went to a local hospital. As many as 200 first responders flooded the scene, and hazmat crews shut down an engine fire before it got worse. NTSB is headed to Miami. Pray for the families and the injured, and keep the speculation down until the investigators finish the job.

Former FAA deputy Dan Elwell said spoilers, thrust reversers, and brakes should stop a jet like that if it lands in the first part of a 9,300-foot runway. Something went wrong with the slowing process or the landing itself. The NTSB has the black boxes and access to the crew. Those families deserve hard answers, not internet guesses. Investigators need to find out exactly why that plane would not stop.
