Without context, the scene didn't seem an escalation and physicality was needed. So we have assault, break into personal property to start if the dude was clean. Go watch 'audit the audit' and learn some traffic stop rights. More often than not, cops will ask questions and find a probable cause to cover themselves. Don't leave yourself open like that.
