I doubt they were given it in the form with the commas. It's difficult to read a number that big properly without some formatting.

Shame,this age needs to do better, but the clearest wording would have been “Could you say this amount?” The visual formatting suggested money, but the word “number” could have led them to read the digits instead of the value.🤷‍♀️
