Now, Israel claiming it was Israel’s decision alone is self-evident. It’s reminiscent of the first night of the attack in Iran. The United States gave Israel the approval — it wouldn’t have happened if the US objected, given their interests. Remember the plane Qatar gave to Trump? This event itself, no less than the dramatic assassination of Hamas leadership (if it succeeded), is a major blow to Qatar’s regional status. For two years, Qatar’s been playing both sides. If defeating Hamas is the goal, then Qatar is the enemy: Qatar funded Hamas for years, with Israel’s reluctant blessing. But if the goal is freeing hostages, Qatar’s suddenly a partner.
