Sanskrit in a Chinese movie. Hiuen Tsang, spoke in Sanskrit because medium of Instruction was Sanskrit in Nalanda. During the time of Fa Hien and Hiuen Tsang, Chinese Buddhist students used to learn Sanskrit to get admission in universities of India, similar to TOEFL exam for getting admission in US universities in modern times.

For many years, in the name of opposing ‘Hindi imposition’, there is a practice of not allowing the study of Hindi & Sanskrit in Tamil Nadu. It is to an extent that we cannot learn Hindi or Sanskrit even if we wish to. You have every right to develop the Tamil Language. But you don’t have the right to prevent those who are willing to learn Hindi or Sanskrit. But you don’t allow us to study Hindi or Sanskrit. - Smt Nirmala Sitharaman. (1/n)

There is a big difference between Indian Muslims and Indonesian Muslims. Indonesia is 90% Muslim country, yet its people proudly acknowledge their Hindu ancestors. Many carry Sanskrit names, and epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata are taught in their schools. They identify themselves as Indonesians first, and Muslims second. Indian Muslims, on the other hand, tend to resonate more strongly with Arab identity. They often prefer Arabic names and identify as Muslims first, and Indians later. I believe Indian Muslims should learn from their Indonesian counterparts and reconnect with their Indian-Hindu civilizational roots rather than prioritizing Arab influences.

There’s a beautiful Sanskrit verse (Subhashitam) that highlights a very critical aspect of relationships: अति परिचयात अवज्ञा सतत गमनात अनादरः भवति ! मलये भिल्ली पुरन्ध्री चन्दन तरुकाष्ठ इन्धनम् कुरुते ! ati paricayaat avagyaa satat gamanaat anaadaro bhavati malaye bhilla purandari chandanam taru kaashtha indhanam kurute Translation: Too much familiarity with someone could lead to contempt/neglect, and very close association could lead to disrespect. A lady living in the Malay Mountains, which has abundant, costly sandalwood trees, uses that sandalwood as fuel in her stove. Because of being surrounded by those trees all the time, she takes them for granted. The closer a relationship, the more time we spend with someone, the more the chances are that we take it for granted and even start seeing faults in the other person. Let’s learn to ignore the trivial things that slowly add up and create sourness and, at times, distance in our relationships. And when things are not trivial enough to ignore, let’s learn to deal with them appropriately rather than being consumed by them.
