I’m sick of people always blaming the owner. This happened to us. We left our dog in the house when we ran off to do an errand. Unbeknownst to us, our 10 month old dog managed to open the front door because it was a lever handle (that had never happened before). He ran out onto a busy street trying to find us and got hit by a car —broken leg. Someone called us because our number was on the tag and we drove back. The people watching our dog were so nice but they said another couple came by saying what horrible owners we were because we let our dog run free outside. From that moment on our dog was never left free to roam the house when we were gone. Either crated or leashed to the coffee table. You don’t always know the facts. This person may have had the dog on the leash and undid it briefly. Or he was opening the door to his house or car and the dog bolted out. Be kind.

Driver not at fault. Blame goes to the dog owner. Issue him a citation for not having his dog on a leash. And one for reckless endangerment of an animal.

OK, first thing first. Dog was off the leash so that’s not the driver‘s fault, second thing is the owner is wasting valuable time, yelling and losing his shit where he could be obsessing the damage to the dog and taking it to the emergency vet as soon as possible. Police are gonna do anything & may give him a ticket. If he really cared about dog, he would have just immediately taken her to the vet instead of losing his cool.

I’m an insurance agent. It’s never the drivers fault when a dog runs straight into traffic. Period. It’s the owners fault for not keeping the dog in leash. In fact, the owner of the dog needs to pay for any damage caused in the traffic accident by the dog. Owner of the dog holds full liability. Second, it’s just a dog. Guy losing it acts like his daughter was run over or something. Chill. 😆
