(2/6) As the Orion capsule leaves Earth orbit, one of the final pieces of the planning puzzle is falling into place: the crew’s flight path around the Moon, which determines what they'll see during their flyby.

(3/6) Just as landscapes on Earth look different at high noon and sunset, lighting conditions across the lunar surface will influence what the Artemis II astronauts observe and photograph as they slingshot around the Moon.

(4/6) The angle of sunlight hitting the Moon changes by about 1 degree every 2 hours, so the flyby timeline shapes the science strategy. The spacecraft's exact path will affect the crew’s view, too. Here at Mission Control in Houston, the Lunar Science Team is ready.

(5/6) They'll spend the next few days generating a packed Lunar Targeting Plan for the several-hour-long flyby, so the Artemis II crew can make the most of their unique opportunity to observe and document the Moon’s far side for all of us back home.

It’s the 'squeeze as much knowledge as possible' part for me. The data from this lunar flyby is going to change the textbooks for the next generation. Can’t wait to see the Moon observation plan in action!

Thanks for sharing. Your website AROW link is NOT user friendly in mission view. It should be made for a 10yr old. You are sending folks to the moon, but the web page is whack. See what Im saying.

hi space community! I created a Live Orion tracker page, it's a proof of concept, similar to the official Nasa live tracker, the difference is I added: - time replay (go back/ahead in time) - if you add your location it will calculate RA/DEC so you can use your home telescope :)

Best of luck🤞 to all the four crews of Artemis II and Orion. Let’s get captured by Moon’s gravity, do a perfect flyby of Moon, take some nice breath taking visuals, fire the booster, get captured by Earth’s gravity and splash down on Earth. Praying for a safe journey and return.

Last month, for the first time in more than 50 years, four astronauts flew to the moon and back. Their mission, Artemis II, was a test run for future endeavors, including the construction of a NASA base on the lunar surface. Reid Wiseman, the commander of the recent mission to the moon, talks to David W. Brown about the fear inherent in a voyage leaving Earth, going deeper into space than anyone in history, and how the group of astronauts came together as a crew. Read the full interview:
