Gilbert Arenas says the dunk contest was ruined by Michael Jordan in 1988 “Listen, we do have a problem. I don’t want to say it’s Stephen A. Smith. I don’t want to say it’s my guy, BUT LOOK, EVERYTHING IS NOT LEBRON’S FAULT. OKAY? LeBron didn’t ruin the dunk contest 15 years ago. Okay? The dunk contest was ruined in 1988. Okay? 1988. Rich Paul on LeBrons future and the criticism he got for never doing the dunk contest, and his ‘decision’ to go to Miami 👀 Future: Could he play 1 more year? Yeah he could play 3 more if that’s what he decides to do. It’s a mental thing at this point… Dunk Contest: If he doesn’t do the dunk contest, that’s an issue. Or ‘he ruined the dunk contest.’ Not really. The couple times he wanted to do it he had an ankle sprain like two games before and at that point it’s like ‘nah I’m not gonna do It’. I think because people did it prior to you, they feel you should have to do something The Decision: Deciding to talk about your plans and where you’re going at the forefront of everything When he decided to go to Miami, that became a thing. It was the worst thing in the world until it became the most popular thing in the world for everybody to do from 3rd grade all the way up to every college signing now has a decision. Rare VHS footage recently found: In the summer of 1988, Michael Jordan accepted the task of judging a slam dunk contest in South Carolina. The dunk tournament was headlined by seven contestants, most notably Jo Jo English (high school kid at the time), who ended up teaming up with Jordan for the Chicago Bulls from 1992-1995. Jo Jo won the contest and he started talking trash to Mike, Jordan got fed up with the kid and decided to do a one on one dunk contest of their own. He was wearing street clothes and had to find a fan who let him borrow his Jordans. Mike ended up beating Jo Jo and the fans got to witness Mike put on a dunk contest for only $3 admission 🔥 One of the MANY reasons Mike is the GOAT, he NEVER ducked any smoke! Other pretenders made promises to do the NBA dunk contest, then dodged it because they were afraid to hurt their brand ✌🏻✌🏻
