Leechiu: Corruption is holding back confidence “It is a question of confidence,” said Leechiu Property Consultants founder David Leechiu. The real estate industry veteran said restoring that confidence starts with addressing governance: “A big chunk of how disheartened people are today is because of corruption. If we are able... to bring corruption down to some less scandalous level, that would dramatically equate to increased confidence.” Beyond tackling corruption, Leechiu said the country also needs stronger leadership. “If we are able to attract credible people, sensible people, more people like Frederick Go, even if there’s only one Frederick Go, then we would be able to bring better policies. And those sets of policies will translate to lower country risk, which would then translate to lower long-term interest rates.”show more

Corruption in the church is the most serious threat to our country today. It’s a bold claim. Yet if we believe Jesus is the hope of the world, and the church is his means of rescuing it, then what threatens the church, threatens our country. What astonishes me, though, is how few Christian leaders are even addressing this threat. There comes a time when we have to let toxic & incompetent people leave! Don’t renew their term if you are their line manager or just tell them to leave because they are not there to serve but to further their politics. As a leader, you are appointed to serve the country/company/institution and not to serve yourself. When a leader is accused of staff turnover then we must ask about the quality of the people who left. If the leader is accused of bullying we must ask what the allegedly bullied people were doing to be bullied like that. Leadership is NOT for sissies! We are busy nursing incompetent people while Rome is burning!! Our country needs bold & unapologetic leadership! #Leadership #DecisiveLeadership #Accountability

🔸5 years ago, we were lamenting how Nicole Tomorrow is the institution where corruption cases go to die. Today, the situation is even worse. The institution has been crippled by capture and is renowned for treating the perpetrators of corruption as sacred cows to the point where looters don’t even flinch when they hear they’re being investigated. The most corrupt will casually say “handikendenge” (they don’t care) when Nicole Tomorrow calls them in for an “interview.” Citizens have very little confidence that the fight against corruption is sincere. They have a long way to go if they hope to win back public confidence because so far, vakabatwa kuti dzviii. We need new leaders.🇿🇼

Today is Sunday, and millions of Nigerians will be heading to church. On Fridays, millions also gather in mosques to pray. One thing is clear—Nigeria is a deeply religious country. But here is my question: After all the prayers, sermons, and acts of worship, why do some people still return to their offices, government institutions, and businesses only to engage in corruption and steal public funds? Both the Bible and the Qur'an condemn stealing, dishonesty, and corruption. They teach justice, integrity, and accountability. So, if we are truly as religious as we claim to be, who is stealing Nigeria's wealth? Who is responsible for the corruption that has held this country back? Perhaps the real problem isn't our religion—it's our willingness to practice what we preach.
