I think that people will enjoy the novelty of certain legacy IPs like the Nintendo ones, but they’ll have to keep evolving as the times do. Allowing free market licensing content is the best of both worlds without having an absolutely decentralized media society. I think recent trends in social media proves gatekeeping has to be held in some regard or fandoms and communities at major conventions bring in unwanted crowds. See Magic the Gathering, speedrunning, basicslly every JRPG scene etc.
