One of the most brutal scenes in The Return of the King Extended Edition is Aragorn confronting Sauron through the palantír. On the surface, it almost plays like a fantasy trash-talk session between two enemies from opposite sides of the world. Aragorn reveals himself as Isildur's heir. He shows Sauron the reforged Sword of Elendil. No more hiding - he wants the Dark Lord to know that the bloodline that once brought him down has returned. It's an incredibly bold move. Sauron doesn't answer with rage. He answers with cruelty. Instead of just threatening Aragorn, he shows him a vision of Arwen dying. In one instant, the whole confrontation stops being about kingship, armies, swords, or prophecy. Sauron finds the one wound that actually matters and presses straight into it. That's what makes the scene land so hard. Aragorn shows up with legacy. Sauron answers with loss. The palantír isn't just a magic object here - it's psychological warfare. Aragorn is trying to pull Sauron's full attention onto himself and away from Frodo and Sam. Sauron is trying to break Aragorn's resolve by convincing him the future he's fighting for is already gone. Andrei Tarkovsky on Ingmar Bergman's Shame (1968): "Let us look at Bergman's Shame. The film doesn't contain a single 'actor's piece' for the performer to 'give away' the director's purpose, to play the conception of the persona, his attitude to it, to assess it in relation to the overall idea; and the latter is entirely hidden within the dynamic of the characters' lives, at one with it. The people in the film are crushed by circumstances; they act only in accordance with their situation, to which they themselves are subordinate; they make no attempt to proffer us any idea, any perspective on what is happening, or to draw any conclusion. All of that is left to the film as a whole, to the director's vision. And how superbly it is accomplished! You cannot say in simple terms who amongst them is good or bad. I could never say that von Sydow is a bad man. They are all partly good and partly bad, each in his own way. No judgements are passed, because there is no hint of tendentiousness in any of the actors, and the circumstances of the film are used by the director to explore the human possibilities which they test, and not for a moment in order to illustrate a thesis. Max von Sydow's character is developed with masterly power. He is a very good man; a musician; kind and sensitive. It turns out that he is a coward. But by no means every bold man is a good human being, and cowards are not always scoundrels. Of course, he is weak and irresolute. His wife is far stronger than he, so much so that she can overcome her fear. The hero lacks that strength. He is tormented by his own weakness, vulnerability, lack of resilience; he tries to hide, to cower in a corner, not to see and not to hear; and he does this like a child, naively and with complete sincerity. But when circumstances nevertheless force him to defend himself, he instantly turns into a scoundrel. He loses all that was best in him; but the drama and absurdity of his situation is that as he is now he becomes necessary to his wife, who, in her turn, looks to him for protection and succour instead of despising him as she always had. When he beats her about the face and says 'Get out!' she goes crawling after him. There is something here of the age-old idea of passive good and active evil; but its expression is immensely complex. At the beginning of the film the hero cannot even kill a chicken, but as soon as he has found a way of defending himself he becomes a cruel cynic. He has something of Hamlet: my view is that the Prince of Denmark perishes not as a result of the duel, when he dies physically, but immediately after the 'rat' scene, when he understands how irreversible are those laws of life which have forced him, a man of humanity and intellect, to act like the inferior people who inhabit Elsinore. Von Sydow is now a sinister character, afraid of nothing: he kills; will not raise a finger to save his fellows; pursues only his own interests. The point is that you have to be a person of great integrity to feel fear in the face of the foul necessity to kill and humiliate. And by shedding that fear and apparently acquiring courage, a person in fact loses his spiritual strength and intellectual honesty and parts from his innocence. War is the obvious catalyst for the cruel, anti-human elements in people. YUSUF'S DIARY SESSION Yusuf shared that he's been feeling good and that his experience in the Big Brother house has been a positive one so far. I just finished watching the first episodes of No Tail to Tell on Netflix, and honestly, it already feels like the wildest rom com fantasy ride of the season. She’s a gumiho I have always wanted, with bite, sass, and style. Then fate and literal chaos intervene. A strange accident involving Kang Si‑yeol (Lomon), a world class soccer star known for his confidence, discipline, and narcissism, flips everything on its head. One moment, Eun‑ho is untouchable, powerful, and detached. The next moment, she’s losing her mystical edge and becoming human without warning. I mean, she spent centuries avoiding this. The show balances humor, mythology, and emotional chaos. Eun‑ho’s reactions to human flaws, especially her first encounters with Si‑yeol’s fame, ego, and everyday life, are equal parts hilarious and insightful. Her ability to bend situations to her will in her gumiho state is contrasted brilliantly with how lost and confused she becomes as a human. Episode 1 closes with a surprising twist. For the past week, we’ve been sharing tears, heartbreak, and beautiful memories of Danya’s one-of-a-kind character. It feels wrong to continue with everyday life after losing one of the brightest and kindest souls in the chess world. Danya was one of the most humble and brilliant players I’ve ever met — a rare genius who would never admit he was one. He wasn’t just one of the best chess teachers online but also one of the strongest blitz players in the world. Once, after streaming for seven and a half hours, I told Danya he could cancel our lesson if he was tired. He kindly declined and shared his excitement for the special games he prepared. He loved teaching his friends and family and never expected anything in return. He had an incredible sense of humor and no ego. In the second slide, you can see him playing a simul against the three of us — witty as ever, multitasking, and still crushing all of us. He was always an amazing sport and made every game fun, even though his skill level was far beyond ours. We’d play odds matches where he had 45 seconds vs 3 minutes, trying to “adopt” my sister and I (winning ten games in a row.) We’d add embarrassing punishments, but he never complained. He’d just laugh it off and say, “Please, Alexandra, just don’t make me dance again.” Danya brought as much laughter to the world as he did love and passion for chess. He dedicated his life to the game. It’s impossible to comprehend the pain and pressure he faced from the absurd cheating accusations — yet he carried himself with honor, respect, and integrity. He played with five cameras, went live on Russian TV, and accepted unfair conditions just to prove his honesty. Despite it all, he delivered some of the strongest performances of his career. While his friends and family stood loyal by his side, the approval he wanted most was that of the top players. But he was stripped of any fair testimony. Rest in peace, Daniel Naroditsky. The chess world will never be the same without you. May your legacy live on — and may we treat each other with the same kindness, humility, and selflessness that Danya showed every day.

“A Wizard Is Never Late” In the scene where Gandalf meets Frodo in the Shire, Frodo teases him for being late. Gandalf replies: “A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early.” He then concludes that a wizard always arrives at precisely the time he means to. At first glance, this is simply a humorous remark, perfectly in keeping with Gandalf’s character. But when I place it alongside his other words throughout The Lord of the Rings, I feel that the line opens up a deeper way of looking at the character. Gandalf is not someone who knows the entire future in advance. But he is aware that he is carrying out a mission greater than himself, and that what happens in Middle-earth does not lie entirely within the control of any individual. So the question I want to ask is: when Gandalf says that he is neither late nor early, but arrives at the right time, what does “the right time” actually mean to him? Other forces are at work One of the lines that draws my attention most is what Gandalf says about Bilbo finding the Ring. In the novel, Gandalf says: “Behind that there was something else at work, beyond any design of the Ring-maker. I can put it no plainer than by saying that Bilbo was meant to find the Ring, and not by its maker. In which case you also were meant to have it.” I am especially struck by the phrase: “was meant to.” Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. And if that was so, Frodo was also meant to have it. What is interesting is that Gandalf does not explain the Ring coming into Bilbo’s possession simply as an accident. He senses that something lies behind the event, something beyond the intention of the very maker of the Ring. In the film, this idea is expressed more briefly. Gandalf says: “There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the evil.” There are other forces at work in this world besides evil. In the way I see it, this is one of the most important lines for understanding how Gandalf views the world. Sauron has his own will. The Ring has its own power and purpose. Bilbo, Frodo, Gollum, and the others still have choices of their own. But at the same time, Gandalf recognizes that other forces are at work beyond the control of any individual. He knows that he exists within a greater order than himself. Gandalf knows much, but he does not know everything This becomes even clearer when he speaks about Gollum. Frodo regrets that Bilbo did not kill Gollum when he had the chance. But Gandalf does not agree with this way of seeing things: “Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends... My heart tells me that he has some part to play yet, for good or ill, before the end.” The words that stand out to me most are: “Even the very wise cannot see all ends.” Even the wisest cannot see every outcome. This is important. Gandalf does not know what Gollum will ultimately do. He only senses that Gollum still has some part to play before the story comes to an end. And this is precisely where I see Gandalf as different from a character who “knows everything in advance.” He sees more than Frodo does. But he also knows that what he sees is only part of the whole. He does not give himself the right to determine Gollum’s entire fate, because he understands that there are outcomes even he cannot yet see. This connects directly to Bilbo. Gandalf says: “The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many.” Bilbo could not have known that when he spared Gollum. He simply chose not to kill a creature he felt pity for. Yet that choice later became one link in a story far greater than Bilbo himself. This is the part I find especially beautiful: An individual can still choose freely, yet cannot know the full meaning that their choice will eventually create. Therefore, the existence of a greater order does not necessarily turn the characters into puppets. Bilbo still chooses. Frodo still chooses. Gandalf still chooses. But those choices can become woven into a story greater than the people who make them. Gandalf as a servant When Gandalf faces the Balrog, he says: “I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor.” I am especially struck by one word: “servant.” Gandalf is a being of great power. Yet he does not introduce himself as the ultimate master of that power. He calls himself a servant. This fits Gandalf’s place in Tolkien’s world: he was sent to Middle-earth to carry out a mission. His power, therefore, is not an end in itself. He does not possess power simply so that he can do whatever he wants. His power is connected to a mission. This becomes even clearer after his confrontation with the Balrog. In the novel, Gandalf says: “Naked I was sent back — for a brief time, until my task is done.” The important words here are: “sent back.” He was sent back. And he returned: “until my task is done.” Gandalf did not decide for himself to return. He was sent back and continued his task. I do not want to take this line too far by claiming that Gandalf knew the exact details of the entire plan behind his return. What we can say more confidently is that Gandalf himself understands his return as having been sent back so that he may continue and complete his task. This fits the image of Gandalf throughout the story: He has a task, but he does not see the entire outcome. He knows that he is serving something greater, yet he still has to choose how to carry out his part. The circumstances are given, but the choice remains ours This is expressed very clearly when Frodo says: “I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.” Gandalf replies: “So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” Here, I see two beautiful layers: The circumstances are given. The actions are chosen. Frodo cannot choose the age into which he was born. He cannot choose whether the Ring will appear. But Gandalf does not say that Frodo therefore has no choice. He says that what we can decide is what we will do with the time that is given to us. In The Return of the King, Gandalf also says: “It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set...” We are not meant to master all the tides of the world, but to do what lies within our power during the years in which we have been placed. These two lines complement each other very clearly: We do not control the whole of our circumstances, but we are still responsible for our part in them. In the way I see it, this is where providence and free will meet. Gandalf is not someone who simply sits back and waits for everything to happen according to a script he already knows. He still has to observe, judge, and choose. But neither does he act as an individual completely separate from a greater order. So what can “A wizard is never late” mean? Celebrating this historic European championship victory for Aston Villa, the Prince of Wales took to social media to congratulate them and ended his message saying, UTV for Villa's slogan "Up the Villa!" and VTID for "Villa Till I Die" reaffirming his loyalty to the team and that is quite the Royal superfan, isn't it? 😁😍 In every situation, there is a Life lesson to be learned and the win yesterday which was 44 years in the making, shows that Success in Life is achievable, regardless of how many challenges and setbacks we encounter on our way there. But it takes three key ingredients to make it happen: •Dare to dream and have that vision; • Be willing to put in the Hardwork to make that dream a reality; • and keep Optimism and Hope high so as to never give up until the goal is reached; and this is honestly the hardest part of it all👌🏾 Prince William has been an Aston Villa fan since he was a child. He recalled during a podcast discussing his passion for the team: “I had some family friends who took me to my first Villa game when I was younger because they are big Villa fans,” “I sat in the stands with my Villa beanie hat on…With the camaraderie among the fans and the chanting and the singing, I just felt like I belonged there.”❤️ Almost 3 decades later, here he was in the stands howling and crying happy tears in celebration for Aston Villa's victory. #zhanglinghe 🔥 #Overdo 🎬 murong qingyi instantly became my favorite character out of all the roles that zhang linghe ever played, and one of the most well developed & complete character he ever portrayed. we get to witness every important stage of his life. we meet his pure personality when he still became a doctor in beiping. then three years ahead, after his released from prison, bitterness and resentment have begun to take root and we see how it affect his personality too. finally, six years later, we see him carrying a far greater responsibility as the principal of the aviation school, determined to carry on his big brother's legacy. murong qingyi is such a layered character that he gives zhang linghe plenty of room to explore, grow, and challenge himself as an actor. the role didn't just allow us to see his ability to create chemistry with so little romantic part, but also his ability to portray complex emotional conflicts and compelling dynamics with other characters around murong qingyi. from quiet moments of vulnerability to intense confrontations, he convincingly captured every stage of murong qingyi's emotional journey. I've watched all of zhang linghe's dramas, and I genuinely think this is his best performance to date. this drama is not a perfect one, but it has undoubtedly given zhang linghe the opportunity to showcase his acting range and prove that he's far more than just a "pretty face." from romantic scenes to heavy emotional scenes and also the fighting scenes, he can portray it very well.

One could say it was not his illness that killed him, but the knife we put in his back, the betrayal of a nation he had dedicated his life to. Reza Pahlavi’s friends and family who remained in Iran were murdered, one by one, at the hands of the regime WE enabled. An entire generation around him was hunted, imprisoned, executed, or driven into exile. His sister and brother, unable to bear the weight of exile and the destruction of everything they had known, took their own lives. Reza Pahlavi has the money. He could have chosen a quiet life, a life of comfort and distance, far from the insults, the threats, the endless character assassination.
