Jaw dropping comments from Nigel Farage MP and Zia Yusuf Farage doesn’t understand that as a shareholder in a limited company his liability is limited. He could never be liable for “millions”! The concept of limited liability is one of the foundations of Western capitalism; a cornerstone of business. If you don’t know this, you simply have no grasp of commerce. Yusuf then goes on to talk about the conversion of Reform UK Ltd from a company limited by shares to one limited by guarantee as being challenging and unprecedented. That is because it’s not possible! Rupert Lowe MP must be holding his head in his hands.

Farage has been told over and over again that he has to start building a shadow Cabinet and he has to publish much more policy in order to build credibility. Dominic Cummings says his lack of a team and plan is coming up in focus groups. So why hasn’t he done it yet? He knows he’s not going to be PM. It’s already been decided that Zia Yusuf is going to be the PM so Nigel Farage MP has given him total control. I’ve been told by Reform donors that when they’ve gone to Farage with concerns he literally tells them “that’s up to Zia go and ask him”. I’ve also been told that they have barely even recruited an in-house team for their HQ let alone candidates for the GE, let alone peers, let alone people to run departments and agencies, etc. Remember that when Yusuf resigned Farage was reported to have said it felt like he’d lost a limb and was very emotional. How could that be given he’d only known Yusuf for 9 months at that point? Something is very badly wrong at the top of Reform. Farage and Yusuf need to go.

The harassment of journalists at #JantarMantar wasn’t an attack on one reporter or one channel it was an attack on the freedom to report. The most disappointing part? The silence of our own fraternity. When journalists are intimidated on the ground, every newsroom should stand together, regardless of ideology or competition. A united stand by all news channels could have sent a clear message: reporting cannot be bullied into submission. If we don’t defend the right to report today, tomorrow there may be no one left to report.

On GB News three days ago Nigel Farage MP, defending accusations of racism against himself, offered up a number of examples of why he is not a racist. Amongst them he claimed he had declined a donation from Elon Musk because the donation offered was linked to him having to support Tommy Robinson 🇬🇧. Presumably Farage is of the view that one or both of Musk and Robinson are racist. That aside, for the record: Musk never offered Farage a donation. Not a single dime. The possibility of a donation from Musk, about which Farage used to speak with such pleasure, was in Farage’s imagination. By my own knowledge, offered a donation, Farage would take it no matter the identity of the donor or their conditions.

Q: Why is company culture important? In the clip below, a16z cofounder Ben Horowitz argues that culture drives how people in your company behave on a daily basis—and particularly, how they behave when you’re not looking. Is that phone call so important I need to return it today or can it wait until tomorrow? Can I ask for a raise before my annual review? Is the quality of this document good enough or should I keep working on it? Do I have to be on time for that meeting? Should I stay at the Four Seasons or the Red Roof Inn? Should I go home at 5 p.m. or 8 p.m.? Should we discuss the color of this new product for five minutes or thirty hours? If I know something is badly broken in the company, should I say something? Whom should I tell? Is winning more important than ethics? None of these things are in your mission statement or OKRs, but they determine many important things for your company, such as how people experience your company, what you’re like to do business with, what your company is like to work at, etc. And as Ben describes, what drives the culture is all of the little behaviors and cues people take on: “this is what I have to do to succeed in this company.” Culture can feel abstract and secondary when you pit it against a concrete result that’s right in front of you, but it’s a strategic investment in the company doing things the right way when you are not looking. It’s the set of assumptions your employees use to resolve the problems they face every day. It’s how they behave when no one is looking. If you don’t methodically set your culture, then two-thirds of it will end up being accidental, and the rest will be a mistake.
