If NYPD had notified ICE at the time — as the law allows — those gang members could’ve been deported, and that federal agent would never have been shot. That’s the cost of letting politics override public safety. What many people don’t realize — and this includes many on the political right — is that most Americans don’t want ICE targeting migrants who are just trying to live normal lives. And that’s a fact.
