Let me introduce the Panasonic Q, a GameCube released by Panasonic. As the 2000s began, the DVD boom took off, and this system combined a DVD player with a GameCube. It definitely feels like it was designed with the PlayStation 2 in mind. It’s also very popular among collectors.

Among all the PlayStation consoles ever released, the PS one was the simplest and cutest. It was a late, budget version of the original PlayStation, and there was even a combo model with an attached LCD monitor. A car adapter was also released, allowing you to play it on the go.

Let me introduce Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (arcade game), a game I had an absolute blast playing in arcades when I was a kid. Back then, Konami was making a lot of belt-scrolling action games using various IPs, and this title was a huge hit. It was also ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System, and the arcade feel was recreated surprisingly well, which made it very popular. Even today, it’s still incredibly fun to play 👌

Let me introduce Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Konami, a game based on the popular animated series. The animation itself was incredibly fun, but the game was just as great. In particular, the Super Famicom version was an excellent port with outstanding quality.

I sometimes feel like the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 were the last “true” console gaming systems. Starting with the PlayStation 3, things began to overlap more with PC, and it started to feel a bit like a PC-like platform. Of course, exclusives still helped set it apart from PC, but it didn’t quite have the same unique identity that the PS1 and PS2 had. Maybe that’s why I still really love those two systems to this day.

Let me introduce Metal Slug 3, often considered the most complete and refined masterpiece in the Metal Slug series. It’s known as the best in the series, with nothing lacking—fun, graphics, presentation, weapons, vehicles—everything is top-tier. However, since it was designed based on the skill level built up from 1, 2, and X, it’s extremely challenging. The branching paths in particular can get brutal—if you take a harder route, it can feel like you’ve been thrown straight into hell, with nonstop chaos. And especially the final scene, where the Regular Army and Morden’s Army join forces to fight the aliens—it was incredibly moving, even for an arcade game.

Metal Slug 6 was released during the series’ 10th anniversary year. It was also the first Metal Slug game to move beyond the Neo Geo platform and launch on the Atomiswave system. Since it came out during a period when the arcade market was already in decline, not many people seem to remember this title today. While the graphics did improve with the platform change, it doesn’t quite capture the finely crafted pixel art style that made Metal Slug 2 and 3 so memorable. In particular, the high-resolution backgrounds can feel a bit awkward because they don’t always blend naturally with the lower-resolution character sprites. The game also introduced Clark and Ralf as playable characters, along with unique special abilities for each character. A new weapon switching system was added as well, allowing players to carry and swap between two weapons. Another feature I thought was a good idea was Easy Mode, where you start with a Heavy Machine Gun by default, although you can’t access the Final Mission. It felt like a nice addition for more casual players.

Maybe inspired by the synergy between the PlayStation and Namco’s arcade-compatible hardware, Sega also developed the Dreamcast and NAOMI together to make arcade-to-console ports much easier for their own games. Because of that, it wasn’t the massive leap that Model 3 had been, but it still ended up getting a huge variety of games from not only Sega, but many other companies as well. Popular titles like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Capcom vs. SNK 2 were also NAOMI-based games. What was disappointing, though, was the irony that Virtua Fighter 4 never came to the Dreamcast and was instead released on the PlayStation 2.

Let me introduce a very obscure console, Bandai Playdia. Just looking at the controller, it’s hard to tell whether you’re actually supposed to play games with it—it’s that strange. (1/3)

WrestleMania X8 was released for The Nintendo GameCube on this day in 2002! It would be the first WWF/WWE GameCube entry, and would be the first game marketed under the WWE name, while also technically being the final WWF game, as WWF logos and branding are present in the game itself. It even has an "officially licensed by The World Wrestling Federation" sticker on the box.

Let me introduce the PC Engine GT, a game console that was released one year after the Game Boy. Its performance was so impressive that it cost nearly six times more than the Game Boy. What’s amazing is that it had the same specs as the home console PC Engine, (1/2)

Let me introduce the 3DO Alive 2 made by LG Electronics. Its design is similar to the PlayStation 1, but personally, I think this one looks even cooler. Back when the Super Famicom and Mega Drive were dominant, the first 32-bit console, the 3DO, was released — (1/2)

Let me introduce “Kung Fu”, one of the early titles for the PC Engine. It was a launch title for the system and was promoted for its impressively large character sprites. Back then, it was hard to achieve this level of impact and visual power on an 8-bit console.

Street Fighter Zero (Alpha) 2 was the most popular entry in the series. Compared to the first game, it had much better balance, and the additional characters made it far more appealing. Personally, I didn’t like Alpha 3 because it felt too complicated. I played it a lot in arcades, but I think I played it the most on the PlayStation 1. Do you like this game?

Not only does it not “definitely” hit the hand. He also said it come from a throw in, let me see the throw in……. Btw it was a foul throw as the Celtic players foot was on the pitch when the ball was released. How can so much go wrong with 4 officials?

This is Power Glove that appeared in the movie The Wizard. It was a NES accessory that let you control games using sensors, just like in the film. But its recognition accuracy was quite low, so playing as smoothly and stylishly as shown in the movie was actually very difficult.

There was a device called Wondermega, which combined the Mega Drive and the Mega-CD into a single unit. Considering that the PlayStation 5 disc model launched at 75,000 yen, it’s shocking that the Wondermega was released back in 1992 for 90,000 yen. When I was young, I never once saw anyone who actually owned one. One of the Wondermega’s most distinctive features was its motorized CD lid that opened and closed automatically—absolutely magical at the time. Other than that, it didn’t really have any standout features. There was a Mega-CD game released under the name Final Fight CD. Unlike the Super Famicom version—which lacked two-player support and didn’t include Guy—this version was ported at a level that was almost identical to the arcade original. I’d say it’s probably the most popular title in the entire Mega-CD library.
