This is an isolated video posted again and again on social media showing an event with an obviously handicapped child. There was no ill intent anywhere. You people are disgusting.

I am not blaming this little girl for what happened. However, since she has Down syndrome, we fully understand her condition. I blame the priest because, in this situation, he should have placed the host directly into her mouth.

It appears to be a first communion with a girl that has some disabilities. The father should have been more attentive. I don't see how the priest could have done much more.

Umm, that’s terrible. I know she has DS, but the parent needed to pull her aside and explain how to properly handle the host. Yes, sanction the priest too.

I don’t blame the girl at all, but her parents need to guide her. The host must be consumed, it’s not a toy or trash to be discarded. It’s sacred.

Oh no! That appears to be her First Holy Communion, so the parents should have watched her take Jesus and consume him properly. Whoever recorded it obviously saw it and should have handled that immediately! This is why I taught my children to receive on the mouth, not the hand.

@Vitus_osst Yes, they are. I think it is a practice that should be removed. We should not be touching Jesus with our unconsecrated hands. We should be receiving him from a priest's consecrated hands on our mouths, into our bodies in the state of grace, having gone to holy confession.

We don’t allow our daughter with DS to take the Eucharist, because she doesn’t like the taste and would spit it out. She doesn’t understand the significance of that, but we do. I believe God gives her the graces she would have received had she eaten it, because He understands…

Abuse the Eucharist, You are in itself abusing Your own individual self. The little Girl "possibly" (We are not God, can't speak 4 Him on the matter) would be forgiven by God, due 2 Disability, lack of Education, Parental example.

Both the Parent's & Priest should of known better. All what myself will comment on about this sorrowful situation. Trying 2 remember IF Pastor or Assist. Pastor interviewed us, but myself know that my 2 older Brothers got Interviewed by them, 2 determine if they were mature enough 2 understand what would be taking place.

The Eucharist is treated with the greatest reverence. Many children w/special needs receive Communion when properly prepared and supported. The priest safeguards the Eucharist during distribution. Parents are responsible for preparing their child, including CCD formation.

The Eucharist needs to be consumed. The priest or parents needs to ensure this occurs, it’s not ok to walk away from Communion line with the host.

What did the Priest do wrong? Was her sponson for first Communion not paying attention? How about her parents?

yall think jesus is upset and judging this little girl then yall dont know jesus.acting like he would allow his body to be disrespected even. Im sure that priest is aware of what he did and prehaps prepared. He probably knows and has a real relationship with the father.

I have been to parishes where ushers stand next to the priest while Holy Communion is being distributed. The ushers make sure those who receive Holy Communion in the hand actuality consume the host and not do things like this. In this case, I blame the priest and the parents. They should know better.

I won’t pretend to know the Catholic significance. But individuals with DS have a high choking risk. It would’ve been irresponsible to put the host into her mouth. It’s heartwarming to see a differently abled girl included in whatever way she is able.

Our son was born with Down Syndrome and we ensured that he receive on the tongue so that he would not accidentally drop our Lord. There's really no excuse for this action. Our children with Down Syndrome are considerably more capable than many give them credit for.@matt_marks66
