Let's be clear. Measure 120 failed because of failed leadership. Period. While Tina Kotek is skirting blame for soaring gas prices and leaning on outside experts to tell her how to run ODOT, I have a plan on day one to make ODOT accountable to Oregonians WITHOUT raising their taxes.

Raising taxes and the cost of living on Oregonians is an unconscionable and deliberate choice. We can protect road maintenance jobs, reprioritize spending at ODOT, and prevent Kotek’s layoffs—and we don’t need new taxes to do so. Read more:

Last week, I sat through a three-hour-long committee meeting listening to Oregon bureaucrats talk about all their priorities and how they want to spend your money. One of their top priorities? Getting Oregonians to drive electric cars and spending their money on electric chargers. Tens of millions of your tax dollars are spent every year to subsidize EVs and their charging networks. $70 MILLION for Pete’s sake. This is just one slide and one program - you know there’s more. Budgets are about priorities, and it's clear what Kotek and the Democrats' priorities are. When Kotek says Republicans don't have solutions for ODOT funding, she's either lying or needs to fire her Comms team, as they apparently don’t watch the news. All we had were solutions. She just didn’t like them. She'll say anything so she doesn't have to defend her misplaced priorities of funding EV subsidies over basic road maintenance, like plowing and paving. She'd rather raise your taxes than make hard decisions about her own priorities. Good thing it looks like Oregonians will have the final say on that.

Tina Kotek set a goal of building 36,000 home/year. But she’s on track to reach less than half that amount, and by her own admission, it’s the best she can do. It shouldn’t take a permit just to get a permit. As your governor, I will cut taxes, not raise them. We will remove red tape, not add costly regulations. We will work to create jobs for home builders, not drive them away to Idaho. Our time is now. Let’s get to work.
