A huge part of starting to get somewhere on immigration is to acknowledge that, since we simply cannot massively reduce immigration, the left will need an unabashedly pro-immigration set of arguments - otherwise the gap between rhetoric and action will be obvious and real.

illegal migrants are not a net contributor to anything other than crime statistics. Stop conflating illegal migrants with proper immigrants (which aren't the best idea, but are at least worth discussing)

We need immigration because we have an ageing population. Thankfully migrants never get old or sick, nor will they ever need to be looked after in a care home one day. How did we ever manage before migrants came to the rescue?
