I think because SRR's style was more similar to his own. Also, Armstrong retired when Ali was like 3 but SRR was still fighting when Ali started training. Actually, SRR didn't retire until almost two years after Ali beat Sonny Liston.

What's insane is host of his fight footage was past his prime. Imagine seeing him at his peak in his natural weight-class. it's a tragedy most of his fights were not filmed.

I could see a reasonable argument for Muhammad Ali being the greatest, but only if that person didn’t know about/didn’t count even older fighters like SRR, Armstrong, Greb etc
