Let’s hope this isn’t true. But anything is possible these days.

Lots of people reporting this.

Definitely seems to be contributing to the price increases. We get our eggs from a local farmer that my father-in-law knows. I’ve been thinking it’s time to start a micro homestead (if that’s even a term) in suburban Ohio. But alas, the dogs probably like raw chicken more than I.

Reading the comments is interesting. She said in 30 years, she hasn’t seen this. She is not a novice. Yet, people respond with “oh, it is just they need more light…” and similar responses. People don’t take things seriously enough IMO.

It is true, our area has a large poultry industry and a few months ago there were posts in our local fb group. The posts suggested then that the feed was no good and get your chickens off it and feed table scraps until they sort it out.

Chickens reproductive systems were not made to lay eggs all year long. They molt in the fall and need to regrow their feathers. That takes a lot of calcium and protein. They also need a certain amount of daylight to lay eggs. Winter = less daylight. It’s not rocket science.

2/ Considering the 'shenanigans' we've seen (cattle die offs, very convenient outbreaks of avian flu etc.) it's not beyond the pale to imagine that something could be added to the chicken feed, to inhibit egg production. I wonder how many similar cases there are.

The feed has intentionally been engineered to make chicken infertile . Previously all chickens organic or not have been engineered to have pathogens that when consumed they eat the good bacteria in the gut causing a another billion dollar industry called probiotics

Question is, who’s fucking with the chicken feed?

I have 18 chickens and haven’t gotten a single egg in 3 months. I’m very used to getting less in the winter but I’ve never gotten none. It’s very strange for sure
