It was dumb when my kids suffered through it 20+ years ago. I can't believe schools are still paying for it!

Testing student understanding of self-selected reading has value. Students in my high school can read whatever they want. If a book doesn’t have an AR test, the student talks about it with library staff. AR is one tool that is used to encourage self-directed, independent reading.
