In an elimination game btw

8 minute video on the state of a 3x all star with a wRC+ of at least 120 in the last 4 seasons. Is there anything more unemployed?

Hmm is he good?

8 minutes of yapping he’s a very good player who’s being held to weirdly high expectations it’s that simple

“All you did for 9 minutes was complain about Riley Greene.” The actual video

I think he either needs more days off or put him in the 6th hole. When he slumped for a second, Hinch put him in the bottom of the order and he went insane. Hit .400 + for weeks got his average up to .300+ Hinch put him back in the heart of the order. Water found its level.

I’m a Riley Greene fan, but yeah really frustrating player. I like this more nuanced convo than just the “he sucks” stuff I see a lot. For me the clutch gene and big hit stuff is a big part of it, and pitch recognition. Agree with a lot of your points though

I think he’s a good player, he just doesn’t seem to ever come through when it matters. Dingler is the guy I trust the most in that area. And Greene has done so little lately that I forget he’s even there.

I'm glad you made the comment about how he runs. That has bugged me / worried me since if first made the team. His homerun trot looks painful.

Honestly, Hao yu Lee has more memorable big clutch hits in his career than Riley has.

Max Clark and McGonigle are the faces of this organization. Or at least will be. The brovado of Clarke with the Captain McGonigle reminds me of Jeter ARod

He runs like he’s counting steps

We can all agree that Riley strikes out too much, but why are we doing think pieces on the best bat on the team over the last 3 years

The only issue I have with Riley is his swing… He swings it like a golf club. He needs to level it out. Right now I would swap Riley and Clark in the lineup… Or swap Valencia if he is DH for Riley in the batting lineup.

It’s simple - when you watch Riley and Tork AB’s, you sense that there is low hitting aptitude. There’s tons of talent, but no plan and very little situational awareness. McGonigle and Dingler (and even Clark to this point) know what they’re trying to accomplish at the dish.

He’s my favorite Tiger. Has been for many years. He’s certainly frustrating at times (who isn’t, it’s baseball) but he’s a 25 year old, 3-time all-star with generally really strong numbers. Plus he doesn’t even have to be the best player anymore. Arrow is still pointing up

Your mention of the “eye test” brought to mind another observation - his tic where he opens his eyes wide after a pitch, during swings, or after fielding a ball. It suggests to me he’s not quite comfortable in the moment, not in the zone or flow.

Poor take on this one, Chris.

“There’s some truth to the tweet” And the tweet says a 25 year old star player with an .815 OPS sucks I just don’t even understand how a human being can be born and be THIS retarded. Like this isn’t just your average Down syndrome

Very frustrating player. Seems like he's capped out at around an .800 OPS guy which is good, not great. Bad defense, no speed and gives off a vibe that he doesn't really care. Strikes out, does that stupid eyebrow raise, and waddles off.

He gets singled out because when he’s going bad he looks like he’s never even played baseball before. The game two days ago they threw him the same pitch all game and he wasn’t even close

Get a life virgin

Riley Greene should be the MVP candidate on this team

Riley Greene for Jarren Duran let’s get it done

Riley needs to move to 1B. Bat too important to wear down in OF

YOU ARE 1000000% CORRECT ABOUT RILEY GREENE

Greene is a star?

He’s not good when it matters. Shitty athlete, strikes out too much, no competitiveness.

great video. Agreed with you 100%

It was arguably the best baseball meme of the decade

One thing I have noticed is lots of kids have Riley as “their tiger” don’t particularly think that means anything but it does point towards him being a viable face of the franchise guy. It’s gonna be mcgonigle tho

Agree 100%. You need a clutch AB and he’s way down the list of Tigers I’d want at the dish.

Riley Greene is an A- player which is fine. A lot of teams would love to have him, a team of 26 players with Riley Greene’s talent is a WS favorite. However his game has clear holes which are obvious in the eye test which is why he is not a superstar, maybe one day he can be
