"Autonomous systems provide so much capability..." #SOUTHCOM Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan highlights the importance of maximizing autonomy across the maritime and air domains to enhance all-domain awareness. In collaboration with members of the Americas Counter Cartel Coalition (A3C) and regional allies, the SOUTHCOM Autonomous Warfare Command (SAWC) is embracing cost-effective, autonomous, and unmanned systems to disrupt and degrade narco-terrorist and cartel networks. By applying total systemic friction through SAWC, we are supporting regional stability in new and effective ways. The Western Hemisphere will no longer be a permissive environment for malign actors or illicit activities. #SAWC #A3C Department of War 🇺🇸 Secretary of War Pete Hegseth

The U.S. military is moving fast on AI warfare, and now it’s building a command just for it. SOUTHCOM’s top commander is ordering a first-of-its-kind Autonomous Warfare Command to deploy drones and unmanned systems across Latin America. “From the seafloor to space… we fully intend to leverage the clear superiority of the American defense ecosystem,” Gen. Francis Donovan says. The move comes as the U.S. ramps up strikes and surveillance targeting cartel-linked trafficking routes. The new command will employ "autonomous, semi-autonomous, and unmanned platforms and systems to counter threats and challenges across domains, linking tactical missions to long-term strategic effects."

Autonomous warfare is changing how we fight. Thank you, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, for continuing to give the Joint Force greater focus on the autonomous mission. We're proud to see one of the Navy's own, Navy SEAL Senior Chief Max Strasiser, selected to help lead DRPM-UxS alongside Owen West. Building on that momentum, the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines are accelerating autonomous capability through DRPM RAS and RASWDC. Together, we’re scaling what works and turning autonomous systems into combat power at this inflection point in naval warfare.
