Brian, That was life for many people just 60 years ago. I rode a cart pulled by a donkey in rural Ireland visiting my grandparents, aunts and uncles. When Americans and American education and media try to sweep me into some White privileged guilt trip, I'm very bewildered and immune to the nonsense, as I know my family's humble origins which was poorer than the poorest Americans except for maybe those in the Appalachian Mtns. I teach my children proper history.

These are like virtual time machines. HG Wells would celebrate you, Brian. Thank you.

That pub is still open. If you happen to visit, say that team Fofefa recommended :)

A lot of technological differences, but in what way were we better off back then?

This was Ireland, a land of shocking poverty at the time. Not that other places were so great, but some of them (North America, for example) were better. These photos were taken about the same time as Bloomsday in Joyce's Ulysses, but apparently in the country, not Dublin.

No Autism, no obesity, no Alzheimers or dementia, essentially no cancer, no CVDs or Statins (I mentioned these two in sequence on purpose)
