Lebanon was under the French mandate until 1943. We invested in infrastructure, established an administrative system inspired by the French model, created schools and universities, invested in agriculture, and developed their banking sector. It was still riding the wave of these advancements until the rise of radical Islam, which ravaged this magnificent country.

It was a golden age for many. My dad always wanted to go back to that Lebanon after we left during the civil war, but when he finally got back in the early 2000s, it had all vanished and wasn't there anymore. He died a few years after that.
